fuel tank capacity on 77 bay dualcab?

Hi. Could somewon tell me what the capacity of my fuel tanks ( I guess it is standard) as fuel gauge is playing up reads 3/4 on fill up and when on empty I put 46.4 lt in it.
Also whould the problem be the tank sender or the dash gauge??
Cheers in advance

It was MT. Mine completely drained takes 45 liters to fill to the bottom of the filler hose. The guage will read full for a couple of KM then will go to 3/4 and sit there for a bit. When it is MT on the guage it is MT!! The problem could be the guage OR the sender...I've never seen one that works well. I wouldn't worry about it,as long as you know when it is going to run out!!

Bay twincab fuel tank should hold 60 litres.

Mine couldn't and doesn't. They are a different tank than a fatchick.

mine used to sit at 3/4, even though it was completely full, then suddenly bomb to nothing... it was the sender unit in the end :thumb

the glove box hand boox instruction manual for a 77 says the tank hold 55 liters. ???

you should do a test fill the bus up and drive till the gauge reads 1/2 then fill up at the same service station. if it takes 27 liters then the gauge is accurate at 1/2 tank

do the same for a 1/4 tank reading if it takes 42 liers then the gauge and sender are accurate at 1/4 full

Its better to know how much fuel u have left that if the tank is full or not !!!

The gauges and sender unit play up regularly on those model busses and to change the sender unit in the tank u have to remove the engine or cut an access hole in the rear floor

Hi,
The capacity of the tank is 55 Littres on all bay windows + the filler neck holds 3.5 litres exactly. Total capacity is exactly 58.5 Litres. I know this as I rolled into a service station yesterday morning completely dry after trying to work out my mileage & fuel economy to the nearest litre.

Wrong again. It is a UTE,not a fatchick van thing.Mine is a 74 model, the tank is not rectangular,it is cylindrical,it has been out and cleaned and filled with 45 liters, which was full.Might be a later model has a different tank.Access is through the back from the inside under the rear seat. The tank is in the middle if the car,not at the back like a "van thing".Has anyone else had their twin cab petrol tank out and the capacity measured???:jesus:alien

Thanks for replies:P
Yes it is a Dual cab!!
Guess I need to carry a fuel can and run it dry to find out .
Good idear.
Tank is shiny new looking so It might not be original any way.
May be I add another filter before I do that as it is fuel injected and don't want to fill it with any crap in the bottom of the tank.:thumb
Thanks again everyone (this forum rocks/the people that support it that is.)
