Where to buy beetle car bra?

Howdy

I remember seeing at the nats last year a place in sydney (I think) that did beetle car bras - anyone know of either this place, or where to get one for my beetle?

I'm keen on the 3 piece design so you can still access the bonnet if necessary, but open to ideas.

Cheers
Alan

i have a 2 peice - 1 peice for the bonnet and another for the fenders and under the front apron.

got it from micks up here in brisbane - this one is leather i think with a felt like backing
there is usually an add in every unique cars mag for them to be custom made - but they looked to be a nylon or something similar to the ones you see on more modern cars...

Hi Al I've been thinking the same thing. I had a look at CIP1....they've got a 2 piece that allows you to open the bonnet for something like US$77....which means you could land it here after freight and $$ conversion for under $200 I reckon.

Cheers guys - ironcross was the one I was thinking of.

I'll give them and micks a buzz, and look into CIP1 if necessary (hopefully the locals should be able to sort it out).

I think the Bonnet bra's made in Australia won't cost more than $200....
Remembering You are buying a cheap $77US bonnet bra from CIP1...
So the Aussie quality is probably better... IMHO..

All the late model car bra's I've seen have instructions NOT to drive with them in the rain...???
which seems wierd to Me...
I used to Make the Bra's out of thick heavy duty Vinyl
for My L300 Mitsubishi Express years ago...
and put many layers of thin foam on the back with contact adhesive....
the water used to just run from the top to the bottom...
never took them off....
and they never marked the paintwork....
they weren't hard to make seeing the front was flat...

- not in the rain - assuming the backing whether it be foam or cloth gets damp and remains so - promotes rust etc.

- i think you ultimately get a similar thing in warmer climates anyhow if the leather sweats or not - you'll still get moisture at the surface

Actually Lee the US bras are very good. I had one for my Type 3 many years ago, and it was velvet backed - pure quality. I've also seen many US bras. If they were crap, they wouldn't keep on selling so many.

When I had my first beetle back in the early 70's I bought one from a VW dealership that just covered the front of the bonnet, you could get either solid black or black and white checkered and I bought checkered, after a few months I found that the paint had faded (the car was light metallic blue) to a checkered pattern!!! And that was in the UK with dubious sunlight what it would be like in Oz I wouldn't want to find out:(
