My project
VW running gear & a Subura Engine.
I want to modify the Body shape abit? Maybe..
But I have been told it was a prototype that was never released so I'm wondering if I should leave it as is?
Any feed back welcomed..
Car is currently in storage while I get some cash together to start work on it.

To answer "Bizarre" Yes I'm in Brisbane.
The car is a Paragon.
It must have been made by a Ford fan as it users Ford parts. Crappy Laser Dash (Which is one thing I want to get rid of)
The wife wants to paint it Candy Apple Red, Totally redo the inside & maybe replace the seats.
I want to install bigger Disc brakes all ends & fit 19 or 20 inch Mags (This is going to be the hardest part I guess as the offset & stud pattern
maybe an issue)
The engine is the next part I will need to look at as it currently has an R18 Subura engine & I don't know if they are worth doing up.
As I said it is a long term project that I'm in no hurry to complete..  |

19- 20 inch mags will see your ride height sky high...
sit it on some 17's and you'll be sweet.
remove the r 18 and add an ej 22 or ej 20T for the grunt.
no matter what your gonna do to it, its gonna be an awesome unique ride. hang on to it mate, heres hoping the cash rolls in quick and we can see that
on the road!

The car currently looks like a 4WD it sits that high off the road. I believe the guy who owned it lived out in the stick & used the car as an everyday
traveller till he got to old to get in & out of it. The seats are flat on the floor, so you are sitting on the floor.. Head room is still an issue.
so I believe there should be a couple of inches in ride hieght I can still drop? Sorry I know very little about VW's ( That is way I'm here.. )
I've had the car for almost a year now so I'm just about ready to start work on it. The Engine that is in it runs (Kind of..) & the old man thinks
it maybe the dual carbys need a rebuild kit & balance. I think I will start with that & see if the motor has any life.
Brakes are the 1st area I want to work on & there is a kit available here in Brisbane that have sets available.

If anybody has any other option or has used these I would like to hear from you.
The petrol Tank also needs replacing so I'm also on the lookout for a new fuel cell or replacement Stainless steel unit.

i think if you lowered it on 18s or 19s it would probly remain a similar ride height to where its at now - and look unbeleivable! - plenty of room in
the wheel arch!
custom are good for alot of the stuff you're looking into getting done - ie: ej22, brakes, lowering etc. - i recommended this to another gentleman on
here named mick (sinecure) (who recently acquired a sabre mkII kit on a type 3 chassis with what i remember to be a ea81 also) - that it might be an
idea to pop down (book first lol) and get them to put it on the hoist so you know exactly what you've got! ie:pan, beams etc, box
i think depending on what you've got mick is learning about kits and dubs at a phenominal rate - especially with regards to legalities, offsets of
wheels etc and would be a useful source external to a business...
is good that you're in brisbane too! - we'll all be at Harry's diner this friday night (june 23) - should come along for a chat - and let the
learning curve begin

I'm in contact with most of the kit car people in Aus and would love to help you get some more info on this car.
If you don't mind, I'll rip these pics and send them around to see if anyone knows anything about it.
And I reckon the chrome wheel arch moulds and pinstripes look great. DON'T mod the body till we have some more info.

If you're going to change Brake discs, then get the new ones studded in a 114.3 mm x 5 stud pattern. This is the most common stud pattern on cars in
Aus and will make choice of wheels much simpler (and cheaper!)

And if it's a dual carb EA81, hang on to it. These are as rare as rocking horse droppings.
Another bit cheaper option on the rear disc brakes is John Sherman on the GC, but both kits have been recommended to me by everybody as top notch.
If the fuel tank in the front is custom, make sure you get a qualified engineer to build and approve the replacement. If it's a standard type3 (like
mine) then a second-hand one would be another option. Can the tank be removed for inspection?

Update on the Car...
Engine is a "EA71" Twin Carb.
Does anybody here know of a way to find out what year this engine is as the cut-off point is the 10/79.
I need to order Carbie rebuild kits for it & of coarse there are 2 different kits available..
What are the EA71 engines like?
Can you get performance parts for them?
Any ideas on who is the local (Brisbane) Subaru Guy/Girl?
I would like to use the standard engine till at least it is rego'ed again as that will save any hassles...

The EA71 is a 1600cc used primarily in Aus in the Leone's. The 2 different carbed versions were used 75-78 and 78-84. The twin carb version is very
rare, and is definitely open to performance mods. I can't find any info on kits for the twin carbs, but I've put the call out.

Thanks for the infromation "sinecure" I have now started working on the car. The Carby's have been stripped down & as soon as
Repco is open today I will take them down there to get the rebuild kits.
I'm glad I found this group because I'm now keen to get this car up & running.

Yeah but almost nothing with a 114 PCD has an offset that suits a VW... May be able to use E-series falcon wheels on a kit car - no guards to scrub

I figured the offset would be 'negotiable' as it's a kit car. I know a dealer near me who is happy to test fit wheels when I change to this stud
pattern, as I have a LOT of room to play on my MKII, and he has lots of wheels available in this pattern with various offsets (-40 to +40) and
widths.
