What's wrong with my oil sump?

Why is it when I put 2.5 litres of oil in my beetle sump which is according to the manual my dipstick shows only half way? I cannot see an oversized sump underneath

From memory they take about 2.8l.

If its showing halfway up it will only take a little bit more to show full.

Check under the engine to see if there is an oil filter...
It would be round and black or grey usually...

You can fit large and small oil filters to them...

The larger oil filter is the better one.... IMHO...

Best of Luck...

Hi

When the oil is cold the dipstick will act like a piston and push the oil level down the dipstick tube, giving a false reading, try twisting dipstick back & forth while counting to 20. Is the car level?

Steve
