Rebuild at Stock T3 FI System?

I recently aquired a 73 FI F/back. I am wondering whether it is possible to rebuild the FI system? Is it worth it? Is it expensive? I will only be using it on a stock engine.

I had to have the FI in my '76 kombi repaired when I first bought the vehicle, it cost about $170. My mechanic was a nice old German bloke who has since retired. He spent 5 hours cleaning injectors that appeared to be blocked, only to have another one go and so on, until he finally traced it to one small diode within the 'control' box. The only other problems I had with it was the occasional blocked injector, which was a result of me forgetting to use the injector cleaning additive that my mechanic had recommended strongly many times. I guess now Premium unleaded would acheive the same thing without the additive.

I found that the 2L always ran nice and smooth without stutters at any speed, and had nice smooth torque down low. A lot of people don't like the FI, but I love it. :thumb
