t3 brakes in t1
Just wondering if it's a direct bolt-in for front and rear brakes from a late t3 to a late (bj) t1??

Rears are bolt straight in. Late type 3 front brakes had a wider spacing between bolt holes so you could have a problem there ('72 on I think)

Mack is right the rear brakes are straight bolt on, I did it about 6 months ago I used every thing from the backing plate forward , it is a good swap
and only took about i hour to strip the brakes from the wreck and replace the ones on my BAJA, I would get or make new gaskets for the backing plate.
As for the front the late type 3's had a larger bolt on patten, so I would not think that the early Type 3's and beetles would be any different
but I may be wrong it has happened before LOL. .

Early type 3 had 80 sqcm pad area with 42 mm caliper pistons
Late type 3 had 100 sqcm pad area with 42 mm caliper pistons

Hi
The early type 3 used a twin pin caliper, like the 1972 Superbug but with bigger pistons as mackaymanx said, the bigger piston will give you more
bite, they will bolt onto to any Type 1 stub axle, 1500, 76 bug, S & L bug.
You can tell which ones they are by the mounting bolt size, the early one used M10 bolts with a 17 mm head, the late ones used M12 bolt with a 19 mm
head.
