how do i clean semaphores?

prob not the right section but i really want to know.

what do i use to clean the lenses... general grot plus grease and paint. also what should i avoid?

also what is the best way to clean up the mechanism? + can you get the solenoid coil out without cutting rivits etc? if not how do people rewind the coils for 12V?

thanks
henry.

probably best to stay away from harsh solvents for the lenses as some will have a tendency to eat plastic. maybe household cleaners or just soapy water etc..

i recently stripped my semaphores so sandblasted and repainted the mechanisms etc
no you cant get the coil out without drilling the two rivets that hold the connection pins onto the semaphore frame.
hth.

see.... air and water do mix ;)
