Interesting... AUTO's having TORQUE?
Was told the semi auto had the equivalent gears of a manual tranny box of the same yr, cept they didn't have the first gear...
therefore starting high on 2nd gear... And was told it would be shabby offroad... BUT!!!
Would the torque convertor cancel this out? Look what i found when being edumacated on torque convertors :

This is simply outta the way the torque convertor works in regards to the motion of ATF fluid driven by turbines in the torque convertor... the motion
of the fluid creates a vacuum or something or rather that turns the transmission, without directly being attatched to it ... therefore the benefits of
turning freely without the wear of a slipping clutch
When under rough terrain and the car going slow, the engine is always gonna be going faster than the wheels, It might be good to reinforce the ATF
hoses and possibly htink of a cooling method... for the extra pressure BUT!!! Could this extra torque created by the torque convertor even out the
loss of the first gear??
Some say the clutch release circuit would most likely be triggered off by bumps in rough terrain cause of its high sensativity on the gear stick...
was thinking that maybe an external swich for the clutch could be triggered via a button, or even the fitting of a button on top of the stick rather
than automatically being engaged
At the moment, trying to focus on gettin the thing turning, always am going a step ahead at least. slowly but surely.

Hi Chris,
You won't need a button for the gearlever as it won't move unless You bump it with Your leg....
or Your passenger does the same...
You could tie both legs together with large cable ties...

so this wouldn't happen.... lol...
or tie Your legs to the window winder.... lol :P:P:P:P
so when You hit a bump....
the window would go up and down.... lol :P:P:P

You will regret it if you build a baja with a bug auto box, just convert it over to manual.

I used to do Kahana cross with a semi auto beetle with 15 inch off road tyres on the back, and a stock 1600 single port engine, it wasn't the fastest
car on the track but it wasn't the slowest either, usually finished in the top 5 cars in the field, and was heaps of fun, flat out in 2nd gear, pull
the hand brake for corners, get it sideways for the corner, then flat out again. :thumb

I have a Auto Notch project comming online soon. It has 30" rears and in the couple paddock tests so far the Auto seems to handle to steep stuff lots
better. But it is still early days and a different box to what you are talking about.
I have very little experience with Auto's but have always liked the idea for what I do. I say its worth a go and replace it when you break it.

yeah, i have no experience in regards the the running of bug autos, but a bit of theory in manual trannies.
I got a VERY comprehensive volkswagen mechanics workshop guide from Karmen during the holidays which tells me how to pull apart my semi auto
transmission. If the gears are crap, could investigate into changing the set . Looked a bit easier with the semi auto tranny then what other people have said about a manual one. All i need is time, and a clean
space... IF its such an issue
