Anyone want their v-dub pictures on Canvas?
Hey dudes,
I'm delving into the world of large-format printing and have started getting some of our kombi-travelling pictures printed up onto canvas... getting
some fabulous results, so really pleased so far
Does anyone want their V-dub (or other) images printed up in the same way? There's some very cool photographs being put up on here.
I'm not mucking around here - i'm using exhibition quality inks on fine art archival canvas and then applying a Giclee coating. It's protected and
wont fade or crack when stretched... very high quality. The ink cartridge set and a roll of canvas alone cost $1500! Worth it though, as the prints
will last forever.
Sizes can go up to 44" (110 cm) wide x however long you want...I can even sort out stretching/framing.

Hi Mitchell,
To keep things easy i've just worked out the cost at $0.18/sq. inch, with a minimum cost of $30 so it doesnt get silly!... for that i'll get the
image ready, print and varnish your image. Then of course postage in a cardboard tube to wherever you are in Aus on top... will have to check this
depending on sizes etc.
So, a 15"x15" pic will be 15x15=225in2
225in2 x $0.18 = $40.5
Bargain!
Remember if your using, say, 40mm depth frame, to add this onto your dimensions so you can wrap it round the sides. The 15"x15" image above will
come out at roughly 12"x12" when wrapped.

Sounds cool, but to be worth it, the picture have to be damn good, no pixelated rubbish. So what camera minimum megapixel would you reccommend using
to match your service?

Depends entirely what size print you want... the beauty of the canvas is that you have some texture to the image which makes it a lot more forgiving
than prints on paper.
I've been using a Canon 350D... which is 8 megapixel, but have done prints off my 4MP Canon ixus 40 that look great.
Its more down to the image dimensions and resolution than the MP of your camera... 300 dpi (dots per inch) would be ideal (v. large file size though),
but 150dpi still looks great, and yesterday I increased the quality of a 72dpi image in Photoshop and it looked fab... anythings possible.
A typical 4MP camera has, say 2200 x 1700 pixels, which at 150dpi is roughly a 15"x12" canvas print at least.
With my 8meg camera, I have no problems getting 30" prints... measure it out - its BIG!
