disc brakes
hi guys ive got a 62 baja and was just wondering is there any front disc brakes that will bolt straight up to it ,i have wide five stud pattern and
want to keep it as well,thanx guys:jesus:jesus |

Firstly no disc brakes from any other car will bolt onto Your Beetles front axles.
Secondly, You can buy brake kits to fit Your front end with wide five stud pattern.
These are very expensive [in My opinion]
but many people have bought and fitted them...
they are especially made for early beetles...
All Beetle owners in the USA are in a similar position to Yourself..
as all air cooled Beetles sold in the USA had drum brakes all round... even in 1978...

So if stacy b and I are stuck with drum brakes, what is the collective wisdom of the forum to maximise the braking efficiency of drums?
Are there upgraded linings available? |

if you are not upgrading the HP and not daily driving i wouldnt bother
if you are going to a 1600 and a disc brake upgrade - (which by the way ir required by law :P in NSW) then it would be cheaper to whack it on a later
pan and get it all as stock
But then its not a 67 and more......
nah.... adjust the drums, make sure they are in good nick and leave it

You can buy the K&L disk brake kits from COR;

they sell 2 different wide 5 stud pattern kits, $880 each. so yes they are kinda expensive, but if you price all the parts seperately you will see you
get to that price pretty quick.
They also sell a disk brake kit for K&L front ends that converts to 4 stub beetle for $770. When you do this you would normally also put 4 stud drums
on the back. This allows more options for mag wheels.

With 50hp (or is that 40hp?) and not a daily driver, I think keeping the drums in good nick is the (only) go.
Who knows, might need to get a hotter bug some day. Add it to the collection. 5 cars....and the wife is counting. |
