Gotta love a heavy backside!

where would i be without a rear engined car?

well i'd be bogged on the side of a hill at raleigh raceway today is where i'd be,
the rain had made the whole hill so wet and muddy i was spinning my wheels like never before!
but i got out of there!! with some VW power and a little crowd support, if you were one the people cheering, thank you!

how many times has the rear engine gotten you out of a sticky situation!?

Or into trouble sort of, everytime it rained i would get my kombi sideways into and out of corners, and my beetle also, nothing better than looking through the passenger window when your going forward sliding through a corner. And then getting the thumbs up from other drivers for the mad display.

This is my Volkswagen, there are many like it, but this one is mine. Without me my Volkswagen is useless, without my Volkswagen, I am useless.

I drove my first beetle up and down some pretty rough fire trails on outings with friends who drove 4WDs.
I particularly remember one day on a trip to the Glow Worm Tunnel near Lithgow in NSW.
As I drove the beetle down and up a 3 metre dip in the road where the track had washed away recently, on the opposite side were the shiny new 4WDs that had just parked because the owners didnt want to try and drive through the dip.
My mate hung out the window and yelled to them all as they watched, 'Volkswagen Power!!'

Yeap,
and my little 76 beetle used to get me through the snow much further without chains than the 4wd drivers (who were to stupid to put them into 4wd!!) with their wide tyres.

I remember canberra in the early 80's when we all had cb's (not mobiles) at the top of mt Ainslie there was a little track to the summit at about 40 degrees. One of the only cars that was able to climb the hill was a little beetle (f'n veedub). We were in v8 holdens. At least we could do burnouts!... Funny how you see the light 20 years later....!
