Anti Virus software.

What do you use? I'm sick of Nortons and their "support".

I've got this problem where it wont update. It says an update is running when it isnt. Tried all the solutions on the web, including nortons own advice and it hasnt worked.

Maybe I could fix the problem if I could turn auto protect off. But it is switched off.... but stil protecting. stupid thing.

Only thing is, I'm paid up till Sept 2007.

If you format to install XP then just reinstal it.I've always used Nortons and have never had a problem,so i would reinstal after XP has been installed onto a clean HD.:tu:

AVG free and a ZoneAlarm firewall are free and I have run them combined for over two years with no probs. They update automatically every time you connect.

I've always used Nortons ..
for many years...
or Symantec anti virus to be correct...

I picked up a virus recently and did a scan and Nortons
Symantec quarantined it, and I deleted it...

I'm connected to the internet 24 hours a day...
so, its not much good for Me to update when I connect
but I used to do that on dial up....
and it worked great....

I've always used Nortons Symantec anti-Virus ...
I have picked up Viruses at times, but never lost anything on My computer.... [touch wood]
as I'd be lost if anything was deleted...
Well, I did lose My Address book one time...

I have to admit I use Symantec ( http://www.symantec.com/index.htm ) which is really Nortons at the moment but when I get fed up I switch to McAfee which is great IMHO.

Of course if you just want to not use any Virus protection switch to a Linux OS like Ubuntu. No virus protection needed.

I've been using Norton without any problems so far. I also run spyware doctor as well to get rid of those nasty cookies. (not the chocolate coated kind.....mmmmmm....cooookies..).

yeah, im using all the anti spy anti ad antivirus I can get my hands on.

Only I must confess, I downloaded a key generator for winzip. I thought about the consequences, checked it with nortons.. it came up clear... and promptly installed a bunch of virus and adware, most of which adaware and spybot cant remove.. Now that may have been dumb... but soon after I downloaded.. I found my legit key for winzip.

I used VET on the 3.1 machine. I used mcafee when I was at uni cos I got it for free, and then went nortons, purely for the 'reputable' name. I had no problems until a few months back. This was before my stupid journey mentioned above so the 2 are not related.

If you do a search on the web for "LU1840 LiveUpdate is already running" you'll find many more frustrated users like me though.

i think i use avg... but for the extra cautious use mozilla firefox (if ur on a pc) or safari (for mac users) instead of internet explorer. firefox automatically blocks pop up ads and comes with its own anti virus software, same goes for safari.
most internet viruses and spyware target internet explorer specifically, according to computer genius little brother, so using firefox and/or safari are preety good ways to ensure nothing is going to come popping up telling you to buy this and that, and your passwords are safe from other computer nerds as well as spyware which will take your details and flood you with advertising!

AVG & Zone Alarm for firewall,

I changed to that from Norton after Norton could not find a virus & trojan that I knew I had but could not get rid of, never any problems since, & it has to be about 5 years now....

Couldn't agree more.

Add Zone Alarm if you don't have a hardware router (or if do and you're particularly paranoid).

AVG free for me. Can't complain.

We use Nortons at work and it can be troublesome to update. Reinstall usually fixes it though.
