another squareback to be saved

a few weeks ago one of my customers was happily cruising along in her 66 squareback , with the kids in the car , when another motorist pulled out in front of her and smashed into the left front .
Fortunately no-one was injured . The wagon however is looking very much worse for wear .
The insurance company wrote the wagon off and the customer got a reasonable payout and also had salvage rights for the car .
She immediatley had the squareback towed to WPVW , where we will repair the accident damage and have the car looking like new again .

Is amazing how insurance companies will write this kind of stuff off.

I fully understand why they do what they do, just a shame.

Great to hear it'll be on the mend soon enough.

I used to have a Fiat 2300S, which after I sold it had an accident very similar to that one. For the sake of a mudguard and a front end ball joint the insurance company wrote it off because replacement mudguards are not available anywhere in the world. I eventually got to speak to the new owner and told him the the front end had slightly modified Torana ball joints in it as I had them fitted after we found that the real ones were not available.

No-one panel beats any more. They just replace panels with new ones and only people like WPVW are prepared to do things the old way.

I remember that car being for sale at the nats a few years back.
I loved it but the wife wouldn't let me sell her car so that i could buy it.
It looked great back then.
I am sure that the team at WPVW will get it back to its former glory.

All most body works want to do now is insurance jobs on new cars. Lotsa bog and a bit of paint and it's out the door. Easy money.

It seems to be a dying art:sniffle:

if anyone out there has a left front guard for an early type-3 with the bullet indicators , please call me on 02-42725844 or 0419-481461 . I have checked all of my own panels and only have later model guards . I need a guard ASAP so that we can get started on repairing the squareback .
Thanks , Wayne .

Yeah.. i agree about what's being said.. but that only applies to the big guys!

I just had a fair amount of rust work done, as well as all the dents removed from my car (lots of good old fashioned panel beating).. in total.. about a months work... for $1300... he's done a brilliant job too!

You just have to find the little guys who work in their backyards... just make sure you can see some work that's been done on another car!
I felt pretty confident with this guy because another member of the club had his MK5 GTI Golf bumpers painted there.. and that looks awesome!

I would have to totally disagree jo-tas . I would never recommend that you use a backyarder for any repair . Just because you have had bad experiences with a tradesperson in the past doesn't mean that all tradespersons are of that same quality .
Some of us really care !! and when doing full restorations on VW's I have calculated my labour costs at approx $10 per hour for the amount of hours that I spend on each vehicle . ( and where were you last night ? and the night before ? and the night before that ? and every night last week ? whilst I was at my shop till 11pm each night trying to reassemble a customers bay window camper )
Just go and check out my website at http://www.wpvw.com.au  and view the restorations . A local company Called K&D smash repairs does all of my paint and bodywork , under my supervision , at very reasonable prices .
I refer a lot of customers directly to them for rust repairs and they are doing a great job because I dont get any negative feedback .
These guys do things my way , 'the old fashioned way' . Repairing with metal , not bog !!
They have just completed a splitty bus for me and I will post some pics of the extreme repair efforts that they went to for me .( I will start another post though )

Yes, and my repairs were done the old fashioned way too!
And the final price was less than half that of the 3-4 other bodyworks i got quotes at..

Ok, so there may still be some good "big" bodyworks around.. but not in Hobart it seems..

well I have located a guard for the squareback and dropped it off to Kevin @ K&D smash .

The squareback is already up on the car-a-liner and repairs have commenced .

We have also found quite a lot of rust in the left side sill area and are going to repair this also for the customer .

the front skirt area has already been re-aligned and the bonnet aligned and gaps checked .

Some welding required at the front apron area .

When the squareback was fitted to the car-a-liner the left sill started to crush due to the excessive rust in that area .
