BTV-860...WHERE IS THIS 1960 BUG NOW?

Hey folks... anybody seen this bug around or know where it is now?... it was a 1960 1200 belonging to my grandparents, Ken and Lyn Day.

Was purchased at Lannock Motors and had the rego BTV-860 when they owned it...

I believe it was Bahama Blue or a similar lightish shade of blue.

I'd love to find out where this former piece of the family is now... :bounce

Cheers!

Hehehe... yeh Dave, in fact they lived just up the road from you in Seaforth Street, Bomaderry for about 12 years, then Culburra, then Woollamia, and now Tomerong....decided to move them closeby due to ill health. :) I believe they were living in Petersham or Penrith or summin tho when they owned the Bug....

And yeh Kim, pop was relatively well to do back then... the family had a very successful shipwrighting and furniture enterprise happenin at the time... i think the whitewalls were on the car when it was bought tho hehe...

These are some piccies from our family history type albums and such. Mums side of the family probably explains the VW genes in my blood... lol. The granparents had this bug in the early 60's, and pops father, James Day, had I believe a 1958ish splitty, which he purchased as an 11-window? Kombi and built a very nice camper interior for it from scratch (I believe similar to a Devon). I also have photo's of this somewhere, but at the moment the only one i can find is one of him sitting in the drivrs seat  the granddparents can't remember the rego number of the splitty unfortunately, and as yet I havent found any pictures of it showing the plates :(

WHen James (my great grandad) passed away in about 1967 grandad ended up with his kombi, but was never able to master driving it, so it ended up being sold. :(

Wouldnt mind finding out if these two are still around... but i think the splitty will be near impossible to track down.

I have not had time to look, but age is , the car was definately bought new in either March 1959 (my guess) or march 1960 , see march rego label,
Number plates in those days being slow to go through their sequences, as much lower sales, my 1958 Austin Healey was BLT-502, & my late 1960 Triumph Herald coupe was COA something, from my memory most 1960 cars (like FB Holden) were C something, it is just a matter of digging out my old magazines tonite

The steering wheel and sun visor inside, and semaphores are traits of a pre '60 car.
But as has been discussed before, it may have been made in the late 50's
for the early 1960 delivery and registration.

Love the cool photos!
