looking at buying this buggy and does anyone know if you can still rego shortened pan buggys in nsw? there seems to be no papers saying it was
previously regoed

Hi sgetty, you need to talk directly to the RTA, and even visit the engineers in person and ask them (take a picture of the car).
I went through this last year when getting a SWB buggy rego'd in the ACT, go straight to the people who have to check the car over. If there is no
evidence of previous rego as a buggy, and no paperwork, then you will probably need to get an engineer to certify the car. This could mean $$.
But the RTA will tell you all of this, go and talk to them and get the right info from them first time.
Persevere though, I had the runaround for quite a while last year before finally getting my buggy rego'd. Good luck!

start calling certifying engineers right now, and praying. there were a bunch of SWB cars ok'ed a few years back, but then some anal retentives took
a disliking to SWB buggies again and it's been difficult ever since. there are a few engineers out there willing to do it, but finding them could be
hard.
Makes me kind of cranky given some of the hotrods people are allowed to register in NSW, don't even get me started on custom harleys...

I'm with u pete, us young ones miss out.
Unless we end up being spoilt brats who can afford $10k upfront... but not many can...
anyway one can petition this to change the rule? like u said, others get to custom make this and that... where is the equality... i would feel more
safe in a shonty swb then a 100% perfect working harley anyday... (but thats just bike novice me)

malcolm, like I said in your post, I think you'll find your car will be easily registered if you work with the engineers (lik I did). SWB buggies are
a different animal completely, and NSW has a history of disliking them.

Engineering cost $700 total. I spent an hour with the engineer before I even touched the car finding out what I could and couldn't do. That cost
$100. Then each time I was goign to do something, I rang him and got permission. He checked it a few times during construction and the final
certificate cost $600.
If you do it right it's cheaper and easier. I know of people who've spent thousands on engineers coz they called them in at the last minute. That's
without even mentioning all the changes theor cars needed.

or is it possible to make a quiet, emmission acceptable catalytic exhaust for a type 1 vw motor? say if u even fitted an ECU to manage the whole

then go LWB and get some stability into the bargain. Aside of nostaligia, there is no real advantage to SWB. They understeer more and pull
uncontrollable wheelstands at the drags. Most of them were built with appalling floor pans, and there is no room in them. Even Bruce Meyers went LWB
with the manxter. What does that tell you?
