Hello everyone

G'day all, new member here, live in sydney australia...

Have owned a 1962 Beetle in the past, currently have a 1974 superbug that has had an aftermarket convertible job done on it. Only just really inherited it recently as it used to be my exwifes car, she eventually decided she didn't want it so now it's mine :)

The poor little thing isn't all that healthy at the moment, the engine is pretty much a total loss oil system, there's a leak coming from somewhere on top of the motor at the back, which seems to get worse at higher revs, the engine also seems to have a habit of shaking loose the J connector on the exhaust on the right hand side of the engine, second time this has happened now for some reason. The original conversion to no roof seems to have been rather dodgy, there's a lot of rust starting to bubble up from under the paint which is quite annoying. So I seem to have a bit of a job on my hands.

Tomorrow I shall be pulling the engine out of the car to strip it down and see just how bad things are. I've been looking around trying to find a relatively cheap second hand engine, but havent spotted anything yet. Currently it's got a twinport 1600 in it.

Anyway, nice to have found this forum, reading the posts have made me quite nostalgic for the 62 beetle I used to have, so chances are I'll get the disease and try and find a really old one to restore to original condition :)

Thanks guys for the welcome :) Craigs engine appears to be sold, what sort of money would a wrecker be after for one? Who's a good source for reasonably priced parts?

The leak could be coming from the oil cooler? :)

only thing i can think of that would leak oil on the top of the engine...

Cheers!
