Impreza quad bike

Man builds Impreza quad bike

The sort of stupidity that breeds a Subaru Impreza STi-based quad bike can only be found in the remotest parts of the world.

Take New Zealand, for instance. Here's a country cut off from the rest of the right-thinking world, a place so isolated that they need to fill their
time somehow.

Ken Brough has filled his time building just such a quad, and his reasoning for it? "Why not?"

Complete with a 230bhp turbocharged 'flat' four engine, the 530kg quad has a power-to-weight ratio of 434bhp per tonne, or more than twice a normal Scooby's.

The original Impreza's four-wheel drive is still in place, and Ken describes the quad as "awesomely quick".

Even with four-wheel drive, the STi-ATV - as Ken calls his machine - manages to lift up the front wheels under hard acceleration to do wheelies

Hmmm, put a set of sand paddles on that and take to the dunes!

Of course, if the throttle sticks you learn the true meaning of the word "passenger"!

Next they will be making ride-on F1 cars...

All projects of this sort seem to start with beer.

Only problem with sand use is that you'd get sandblasted from the front paddles!

No, I don't think that that is a real registration, though stranger things have happened. IIRC, there are a few US states (arizona, wyoming, etc. in which you can register quads for street use. I wonder if that thing retains power steering or is it armstrong? Torque steer would be pretty impressive if one wheel lost traction!

it's actually registered...as a TRACTOR. :duh:

Yes, there's something inherently wrong with New Zealand. All the good Kiwis seem to want to move hear.

You can get road legal quads in the UK now. Pretty scary seeing them on the motorways around us.
We have to wear approved crash helmets on motorcycles but you don't have to on a quad!
