Britax a 54?
Hi all,
I have been offered a Britax rag for a good price and am thinking about britaxing my 54 turbo... should I or shouldn't I? I am not sure but finding
the correct rag for my car is near impossible.
The car is not period correct and is turbo so if I go to sell it someone would be buying it for a cool car not because it is original. Just not sure
what to do.

My opinion - Dont do it.
Why not?
The Britax is a 70's style plastic handle and would look wrong on an oval.
it would be like putting elephant feet lights on an oval
As well i am not convinced on the structural integrity of the Britax. The Golde is framed and gusetted (?) and is bloddly strong.
The Britax only has a steel clamp supporting the sheetmetal that you cut.

i'm with the above. If mine was an oval i'd have never put a Britax rag in, but mid 60's are a dime a dozen (comaparitively) and so i had no major
issues with putting an incorrect period item in it.
Hold out for a Golde.

if you want to then do it... its your car.
my 57 has a britax in it. i am not fussed it aint period coz there aint much left that is.
if you want period then you know yourself that you will have to wait till the proper golde comes along.... besides you can always replace the britax
with a golde if one comes along cant you?

Not worried about leaking, the car will never see a cloudy day!
Just unsure about them, can anyone post what they look like on the inside.

all depends
When ever i do a mod to a car i always make sure it can be put back to standard or is correct for that model.
I guess i like things correct for the car, but it all comes down to its your car and you can do what ever you like.
i'd line up for a ride!
The fact of the matter is a 54 beetle has a 3 fold roof and they are very hard to find. Good news is a britax is smaller that a 3 fold rag roof so you
can always step up to a goldie.

Yeah but with the windows you only get one side of your hair messed up ..... for the true experience you need to have the wind coming from all
directions ..... hey now I think about it ..... don't install the britax .... JUST CHOP THE WHOLE ROOF OFF !!!!!!!!!

The rag clips you have seen on here have all been 2 fold rag roofs not 3 fold.
3fold clips are very hard to find, your best bet on a 3 fold is to import one.

Thats right, its the main thing that's stopping me from getting one in mine (OK as well as $$), it takes guys in the US ages to find them so what
hope is there?
The last one I saw on ebay about 6-8 months ago (maybe more) went for about $1500 US and it was a piece of crap, but complete. So by the time you get
it here, restore it and install it you might be up for $4000-$5000. Thats a lot of coin.

I think he is prepared, I told him in person that I wouldn't do it and he didn't fall to pieces or anything. Just because I wouldn't put one in my
car doesn't mean he can't put one in his. Nothing nasty has been written its all just personal opinion.
If T54 wants to do it that's cool, at the end of the day its his car. At least after posting this topic he knows that there should be a fair bit of
positive reaction. Maybe a few negatives but you get that, I'm sure he'll still be able to sleep at night.

I'm on your side T54....just preparing you that some people are passionate about their ovals so some posts may come across as having a go at you. I
hope mine didn't. I don't have an oval.
It's your ride do with it what you want. If resale or period trim isn't an issue....do it.
