My Baja (71 Import) has been off the road for about, Hmmm I guess two or three years. Sitting in the back yard with the tarp over it. Actually two tarps because the first died as it was nonUV.

Anyhow - My question is. After sitting in the back yard on stands and only being started once every 6 months or so, what should I check / change for reliability. It fired up straight away with a new battery and fuel down it's throat but I want to blueslip and register it an have it reliable ASAP.

Suggestions...

Oh, please be specific. I'm not that mechanical.

Flush old brake fluid, adjust and bleed brakes. Check electrical functions as connections may have corroded. Check the condition of tyres as they can age and harden with time. It may seem obvious, but check the tyre pressure.

I would also change oil, plugs, and points. Make sure the rotor, cap and all HT connections are clean.

I don't know if the diaphragm in the fuel pump might harden with time?

Three years is a long time for a car to sit. Have you checked for body rust?

Clean and flush the fuel tank and replace the fuel filter as well....check all fuel lines and service the engine/brakes as mentioned above. Remove the tarp first though.........:yes:

Great - thats a fantastic.

I need lists and to start at the top and make my way down it.

You guys are great. I have three small kids. simple things like flushing the fuel and changing the brake fluid can save me from:
1/- Getting stranded in the middle of the bush with a blocked carb to
2/- not being able to stop because of boiling fliud down the blue mountians.

I know there was a few like tyres, rust and electrics but forgot about fuel pump, rotor and plugs.

I'm still trying to get the right side to fire. Still as cold as a witches ...

are your plugs wet on the right side after cranking it over for a while?

take off a plug lead and hold it about 3mm from an earth and crank your engine by hand.....got spark? (check both leads with car in neutral)

are your valves adjusted? all should be .006

do you have a compression tester?

Uh - It's going to be a big weekend.

I have a tonne of work to do and this looks like a fantastic procrastination list to fulfill.

To be honest I havn't been very motivated because I have been snowed with work. I have to get in and remove the plugs and even replace them perhaps. I think it actually a dizzy fault but i really need to go through the lot.

Seat hook, stock exhaust then converted to dual cannons, paint etc etc
