Notebook Wireless Cards

Does anyone know if the cards adapt to all Notebooks with the wireless card slots... Have a Compaq Presario Notebook (roughly 3.5 years old) it has the slot for a wireless card or what appears to be, but wondering if todays technology wont suit machine? any ideas?

Cheers,
H

The PCMCIA card slots are a standard that has been around for a while...you should not have any trouble fitting a card for wireless.....is it for broadband wireless or just a networking wireless card?....... I personally don't like the broadband wireless, signal can be patchy, and the plans are still too pricey.... they can also generate a bit of heat and suck your battery pretty quick too..... but if you need access on the road it can justify....

Dont get a 3G vodafone card. Released too quickly to keep up with market. About 6 different software versions in 2 months to try and make them reliable. They work when they work... but configuring is a pain.

I think what chris is talking about is a USB Wi-fi network adapter ... you can get a desktop setup, that plugs into your USB drive, for wireless broadband, which is usually cheaper than the cards, but it needs a power supply and is not therefore 'wireless' .........what do you need, a home network or wireless broadband? .....

performance wise, the usb tends to be equivalent. cost wise, well at work, its slightly more expensive.

If u got a slot, the cards that u shove in tend to work fine, and have just as good ability. they are cheaper, from memory.

USB... with that, ur gonna have a stick pocking out, while the slot, well, it sticks out a bit too, but bit harder to loose/knock off.

Both seem to be equivalent in performance, but the usb from memory is expensive.

Best if i check the database at work. tell u wat, i got a full day tomorrow, will check it out for ya, print all the data/info, and post it up for ya. Will get exact details. was just thinking, transmission speed might differ between the 2, so will have a look
