Lifters
I have been reading in other web sites about Lifter problems, pitting and deteriorating surface at camshaft, want to get some input from you guys over
there. If you have, please tell me what brand of lifter, oil used, cam, single or double springs. I want to find out if this is a problem everywhere or
just with certain combos. I am getting ready to put together a new mill for my SPEEDSTER (64x94 yep 64) and want to not have this problem.Any help
will be appreciated, Mike

I think the problem is universal, i am getting into building engines and have been doing a lot of research into the subject, from what i have gathered
it isn't the spring pressures it seems it is dodgy lifters, i will be getting a couple of sets of lifters with the SLR treatment done to them these
being Mahle german and Brazilian, Febi Bilstein, and will try the CB lightweight lifters also. I recently pulled a 1916cc apart, not built by me
which used a Engle VZ 15 cam and all the lifters were in a ok conditon, except for one which was broken and severely worn but the cam lobe and
opposite lifter were fine. It's a shame that Schubeck Racing have stopped making the ceramics, cause they were the best from my research, i know
Jake Raby was an advocate of these but has stopped using them as they are no longer available. I have one of his cams and his treated lifters for my
type 4, but am yet to build this engine so i can't comment on these, but he is very confident he has overcome these issues. If only one of the big
companies in the states would pull their finger out and do their own testing on the type 1 lifters. If any one else has a solution let us all know.
In the 2275 Roller engine i just rebuilt i had Tighe cams regrind and resurface the lifters for the correct radius, i even made sure that they matched
the lifters to the correct lobes on the cam, before installation i coated the lobes and lifters in molycote dry lubricant and used torco lifter'
lobe lube also, just to be sure no wear would occur on break in. Here's a pic of damaged lifter and lube treatment. Cheers Damo.

I was kind of expecting this, but hoped your parts suppliers were differant sources from mine. I hear alot about SCAT lifters failures ,but I
personally have not had any problems with mine up till now. anyone else? Mike

In the past I have used Scat, but am very afraid of the consequences of using their latest ones.
The ones that Auto craft used to use were the black coloured Mahle ones,
and the ones that served me best were the same looking ones, but silver in colour.
My personal opinion on this is that the hard layer is too thin(companies going cheap on us).
I would run used lifters rather than new now.
I went roller in my engines but there are comprimises.

Right now If I could find some that were not giving problems I would lighten and do all the mods to them myself,I was hoping the MAHLES I see
advertised over there were from another source, without the problems I hear about,I used to use the Mahles in the past, but have not been able to find
any locally. Mike

http://www.udobeckertuning.de/ Good reports but no personal experience with
the tool steel lifters Udo makes. I am shore that Shubeck are still making ceramics, have you tried them direct ?
Neither option is cheap, but i guess doing it once is a cheap option.

Man I am old school, all I ever used were stock type lifters.I have used MAHLEs right out of the box, tried bergs and scats, never had any lifter
problems, but I haven't built a street engine in years, usually my race engines were apart and camshaft changes were made before many miles would be
run( 1/8 mile at a time). I haven't seen any pics of lube a lobes, are they having the same problems ?
