I love my subaru motor.

Nothing serious, nothing new, but I took the car out today and drove it hard through a few gears and a few corners. LOVE it, LOVE it!

Awesome smooth torque, huge power and a great sound. I can't talk it up enough. I know my car is not perfect and I'd change a million things about it and probably will eventually, but not the motor and certainly not back to a VW aircooler. The only upgrade I'd make is to a louder exhaust. :P

Love it. :kiss

That looks very much like my donor car from memory...only had it here a week, stripped every possible part off it and called the wreckers to take the shell away. My kombi is going to think it is a suby it will have so many of its bits...oh yeah...love the way the tach flicks around to 6000rpm:crazy:

I love my aircooled engine. Lumpy at idle, it rewards an enthusiastic prod at idle with a rowdy 'blat-bebump-bedump' as each of its 1916 cubes gurgles its morning juice through dual 40mm chokes. As I gradually wake it up completely and its pulse gets quicker, I begin poking into its mid-range, the snare of its exhaust richocheting back from the sandstone through my just-down-a-little-bit passenger window as I wind it out further and further in each gear. With warm tyres, I'm 'up it for the rent', brake dancing and heel-toeing as I find motorbikes to play with in my favourite playground.

It's so much more rewarding than the brand-new, cloned, sterile, late-model stuff I drive the other days of the week...

I love a motor that...

has real fuel economy,
doesn't need it's carbs balances,
doesn't need it's rockers adjusted, hell it doesn't even have rockers,
doesn't have a dizzy or points,
has more than one camshaft,
tunes itself,
was designed after 1920,
runs properly on unleaded fuel,
kick the first time you turn it over, every time.

Doesn't need to anything done to it to produce 150hp standard. ;)

Love a subaru. :smirk:

Neil, most of your posts are senseless ramblings that I can't figure out, but that one I like :D

I had a 1915cc twin 44IDF 044headed VW motor, and sure it's nicer than a 1600 and does sound kinda mean. If that's all you had to compare to you'd think it's the ducks nuts.

But I swapped it out for a 2.5L V6, and I can say from first hand experience there is absolutely no comparison what so ever. The only advantage the VW engine had was it was lighter.

But this is the conversion forum, so we won't talk about those people still stuck on air cooled engines. Although it is strange that they hang out in the conversion section so much :P

love the aircooled poem glenn "the right engine struggle could go for hours " i recon drive a car/bus with the motor that was in it then work it to your own delights and suffer its original character and enjoy it or buy another car .
P.S im not that single minded i did go for a spin in a beetle
with a suby in it great fun until the 2nd gear smashed and we crawled back in 3rd

I suggest you let sleeping dogs lie, coz I can't tell you how upset I was about ruining my 2 yo daughter's special weekend away coz I missed bogging up one miniscule hole. The thought of that whole scenario still literally brings tears to my eyes. You've succeeded in upsetting me a great deal. So walk away please Glen. You were off topic when you started making comments on this post. Stop now please. We can all abuse eachother but that's not what we're here for. Craig I'd appreciate it if you'd do the same. I ask you both to do so as mates.

yeah but Wes your 1916 had about 70hp less than mine, so maybe you should stop comparing all 1916's to yours

Yours might have made 50% more power, but it probably cost 400% more.

In fact it no doubt makes less HP than my V6 and costs about 500% as much.

So it's obvious there will be no comparing of apples with apples here.

And besides, I have digital climate control :D

Glen and craig, thank you for your U2Us apologies accepted.

But let's take minute to reflect, every time any one mentions the word "air-cooled" in connection with the word "subaru" it becomes a watercooled vs 1916 crap fight and someone ends up upset while others rain poo on each other. Then the mods come in and have to clean it up.

let suby people talk about subys.
let 1916 people talk about 1916s.

Don't start fights. Ok. That's why people stop loggin on. OK my rant is over now lets kiss and make up... and that means everyone.
:o
