New themes

As part of the SP1 upgrade, I finally got around to upgrading the theme pack.

I've also set the default theme to Mactastic, which is used by those who haven't yet logged in, and those who haven't chosen a theme. If you've changed your theme, you will notice no difference as your theme overrides the default theme.

There are now two new themes, XP Silver and XP Blue. Both of these are very light colored, which I prefer.

To change your theme, go to "Control Panel / Options" on the top right. Click on Edit Profile, scroll to theme, choose one, scroll to the bottom, click on "Edit Profile" the button, and you'll be taken back to your control panel. Click on anywhere else, and you'll be using the new theme. Try it out for a few minutes - if you don't like it there are several others!

  • XMB.forum - the default, a bit dark for me
  • AventureMedia - A bit better than the default, but not by much
  • Mactastic - MacOS X like theme, and the new default for new users
  • XP Silver - WinXP like theme, silvery
  • XP Blue - WinXP like theme, blue
  • Winter Wind - interesting for those who are color blind
  • XMB gray - except it's bright orange
  • XMB christmas - for that festive feeling

The ones in bold I like as they're crisp and fresh. But each to your own! :) I've got some more themes in a hack pack, so experiment over the next few days.

have fun,
Andrew

I like to use AdventureMedia but for some reason the logo doesn't show as per other themes?

I'm using it now as a test - it's got the same logo as the other themes for me.

It should be showing "Aussieveedubbers.com" over the top of a kombi. If you don't see this, try using shift-reload to force the reload of all graphical elements.

There was a problem with the old way - only one of the themes had Mick's advert on it! That's no good when 30% of our users (including me!) didn't see Mick's logo on a daily basis.

I'm working on a better solution - we need an ad rotator for our other potential advertisers too, and the best way to achieve this for all themes is to do a proper ad rotator.

Don't worry - it'll be no more than a few days without Mick's prescense! If you feel you need to see it, go to our home page - Mick's still there! :)

Hey, great job with the new skins..

One suggestion apart from the Mick Motors thing, and it is only a suggestion..

I made around 40 banner ads, so in the slot up the top, maybe we could keep rotating them, and keep people.. interested.. in the little things.

Again, just a suggestion, and nice job.

Okay, advertising is go. :) Mick is back in business - and better than ever. We can now also do anyone's ads as well, whilst ensuring Mick gets his major sponsorship deal. For example, on rare occasions, you'll see an ad for us. Advertisers like Mick can also log on to the ad administration site and review the number of impressions as well as the number of clickthroughs, something we couldn't do before.

I'd love to do the rotational banner thing as it's a great idea. But the top logo is actually part of the theme file and is replaced every time we do an upgrade.

However, I will cycle through the banners one at a time every time I do someone's avatar or weekly which ever comes first.

Most of those banners are excellent - if others haven't seen them yet, go to the "Forum Banners" link at the top and check them out!

Jeez.. Thanks! ;)

It is missing the one I did for Anthony at the time for the Cruises site, and now it seems even more applicable.. No doubt you can see why..
