Col's 1600cc sleeper!
Colin ran his multi-coloured 1584cc sleeper Bug at the drags for the first time on Saturday.
Fuel supply to the 45 Dellortos limited the power after half track,(16.1 ET)
but a 10.12@66.55mph were his best half track numbers.
From this site,
http://wallaceracing.com/eigth-to-quarter.php
It should be capable of a run in the 15.7's at 82.5mph.
Pretty damn good for a 1584cc Volksy.
Col might chime in with some photos and details of the build-up,
but I can tell you it runs ported heads, low comp, C95 Scat cam, and 45 Dellortos.
He was aiming for the Warwick Weekender, but missed having it completely ready, by a day.

I used to 10.1s and 16.2s with my baby 1916 so that's pretty good for a 1600!

Hey I was there saturday night! saw the multi coloured VW run.
I only layed down a 13.016@105mph was aiming for a mid 12.
Then my mates Evo dropped the front diff, so ended up arranging traliers to get him home and only got 4 runs myself.....
I was wondering what was powering that bug.
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!

I was on my bike (bronze SV650s), first ever time doing a 1/4mile.
It was my mates Evo, which i nav in for tarmac events. We are pretty even on the street, so wanted to see in ideal conditions (and safe ones!!) who
was faster.
I just need to launch harder (60ft time was 2.1secs, bikes should be doing 1.7's i have been told), and loose 20kgs. But 13secs for a stock bike with
only 75hp..... from a mildly tuned 650 twin.
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!

The car exhibits Cols color matching prowess or as he would say it was painted by Stevie Wonder.
Good work Col getting another VW on the track.

Still waiting for some photos of Col's car.
Each panel is painted in a different VW colour, there are about 15 different sections!
He is currently using borrowed BRMs untill he can fit his new wide five centerlines.
Car currently uses a stock tranny,
but he has a 4.125 tranny with superdiff,
and L bug 1st and 2nd, with 1.48, 1.04, 3rd and 4th.

Goes to show there are many different ways to skin a cat.
Col spent his money on his heads and intake, to basically get a 50% increase in the power.
A bore increase will gain even more, but for now I think he will continue to develop it as a 1600...just because it is different.

Thats bloody grat for a 1600..... I'm assuming it has a c/weighted crank and is balanced to be running in the 15's with only 1600cc.....
Who would have thought that 45's would be too small...... or are you saying the fuel pump couldnt keep up with it ?

Hi Doug, yes the fuel pump could not keep up.
It ran less speed at the end than at half track.

There is some info that I do not know, but here is some that I do:
CW crank and Scat C95 cam.
Stock bores and comp.
Heads are unwelded, but ported and use (I think!) 37 inlets and 33 exhausts.
The rockers have Berg swivel feet and shafts, but use 40 horse arms with a little less ratio.
Chromoly 3/8" pushrods, and dual springs.
1-5/8" merged exhaust(?)
45 dells with 34 vents.
Stock fuel pump!...needs to improve its stroke and capacity.
Very basic 1600 combo, with attention to airflow within the heads, cam, and carbs.
Perhaps Col will chime in with some more details.

I can vouch for good heads on a small engine.... My 1776 (in a stock weight bug with a 4.12 Superdiff) ran some Shimo tweeked heads and the best time
I ran was 14.8 at Ravenswood (RIP).... A mild engine with low compression (7.5:1), 60cc semi-hemi'd chambers, WBX exhaust ports, oval intake ports
(40mm Dells) and 40x35.5 valves. I also ran stock ratio rockers (on homemade solid shafts) with BERG valve gear..... Engine runs sweet and cool, have
driven across the country 3 times and she's still flying 12 years after the build.....
Yes... Little engine can produce the goods..... Keep it coming Col.... Little but Quick comes to mind!
