The truth is that the car is in the process of being sold,
hence the words : "that car is no longer on the market".

Once 'paid for', I will do the repairs to the point where any engine and trans could be mounted.
The tranny best for the job will be of the bus variety,
and WHAT engine, depends on who has one spare at the time.

I could easily lend out an engine since my current one will be retired after the Jamboree on 3rd Nov
and is super reliable and consistent.
More comp will be its next mods.

New crankshaft is just a possible future long term project.
My biggest engine from the past has been 2965cc and it would be nice to say "I had a 3 litre"(3030.77cc)
My present 5.85 Pauter Rods will fit fine with 3.625 stroke,(92.075mm) and really help out of the hole.

Rod Richardson will be the new owner,

Plans at this stage are to deliver it to him back as a roller, and I will do the upgrades to the cage
and make a new front beam from chromoly tube rather than a strut front.

These plans can easily change, time will tell!

1/4 Mile ratios

I removed the engine and tranny yesterday to change the gearbox ratios to some 1/4 mile ones.
After the good results from warwick I have decided to let the engine turn some more RPM.
The new ratios will be:
4.857 diff:
3.3333
2.1667
1.500
1.091

This will have the engine turning at 8100 at my best speed of 118.2 (old revs 7400),
and for this reason the engine will have the MSD rev limiter raised to 8200.

The only bad thing was the step from 2nd to 3rd is ever so slightly larger,
but the fact that every gear is now lower,
should allow the car to accellerate faster,
and not be effected by the rev drop into 3rd.
Also every other ratio is closer than it was with the previous quarter mile ratios.

The other thing I found was that the mainshaft bearing had thrusted forward about 3mm,
on one of my runs at Warwick when I bogged the launch.
So I have fitted a steel thrust plate ,

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/Img_3013.jpg

and machined the nose cone to allow for the thickness.

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/Img_3014.jpg

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/Img_3012.jpg

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n216/dangerous_05/Img_3011.jpg

Normally the nose cone does this job,
but in the past I had hand clearanced it
when I accidently fitted the bearing with the cage protruding.
It therefore only had a small amount of material retaining the bearing,
This will prevent this occurring again.
I wondered what that noise was!?

I could hear a whining noise when I was coasting to a stop with the engine off.
This is also a symptom of a crownwheel and peanut on the way south.
Atlough THEY normally also cause a jerky inconsistent whine because normally only a few teeth start to pull before disaster.

The Current 'glass front I have came from a mould that is owned by Mike Waldron.
He works for Vintage....PH 02 97891777... I think.

I can't quite remember how much it cost...perhaps a grand?...not really sure, that's just a guess.

Hey Dave,
I had to change the gear ratios to what my trans runs to really understand what you were running. If I was running your gearset in my type 1 trans the stack would be 3.88 r/p, 4.295 first,2.705 second,1.88 third, 1.365 forth, wow !!!!!! Now those are some serious gears.

Hey Dave,
I went back with the same ones I had, 3.88/ 3.78, 2.31,1.58,1.21 on a 26 inch tire. Only the second gear is pro ringed ,have synchros in 3rd and 4th. Dave Kawell removed the original welds off and rewelded it back with chomemolly rather than the stainless welds ( broke the welds last run) that were on the second gear before. I have the tranny ready to install, will be going back Sunday for testing, then off to Georgia next weekend for the race. Mike
