Well yes it was VERY hot out there,
but my first pass was an 11.72,
but with the new shorter gears it went 8000 thru the traps with a speed of 117.65,
which was promising being how hot it was and the poor launch.
Next round I bunged in a 7300 start line chip and the car peeled off a great 11.36@117.96.(1.55 short time)
This made me very happy,
so for the last qualifyer I bunged in a 8000 shift light and leaned off the fuel mixture,
because the air quality had continued to decline.
Whilst the car did feel lazy/lean on the shift into each subsequent gear,
it did launch well(1.53 sixty foot), and when it hit the 8200 limiter going thru the traps I knew the speed would be good too:
11.25@119.9
Car was 1780lbs = 809kg...that power is not bad!
For the first round I put some fuel back into the curve because the air began to cool off,
and it again went 1.55 in the 60 foot but I was able to back off to take the win with 11.55@106mph.
Second round I had my hopes up but trashed the tranny on the start line.
Oh well, it is a cain machine after all!

Unfortunately it looks like I will have to buy a new housing from the Bergs.
I have had this one since late '93 I think.
but it is the CAUSE inside that makes my wallet squeal.

11.251@119.90 (7.145@94.66 & 1.539 sixty) (had leaned of main pill by .002" due to 2518 ft RA)
11.512@106.61 (7.221@94.54 & 1.551 sixty Back off for the win) (changed pill back for cooler afternoon air)
Last run only got a .524 reaction, and lots of munching sounds....did a good skid but.

bugger I read the callook post seems old mate has some good advice with the thrust limiting spacers. what about fabbing up a over the top brace as
well miight take some of the pressure off the berg housing, I know that clamping presure is the best but the case also flexes under shock load and
makes all applied mechanical grip null and void. I reckon you can weld that housing up just take your time and get it hot! 8 bucks worth of rods and
your muffin oven will do it. plenty of meat left to machine back!

Paul, also known as "gears" and "Pablo", on Samba and Shoptalk,
has been a prominent tranny expert for many years.
I still have some stories he wrote for Hot VW's mag back in the eighties.
His shop was based in Hawaii back then
but now he has a shop on the mainland that makes hypo parts for mainly Porsche stuff,
but still has some nice LSD s in the works for the type one swingaxle.
Have a search for his photos on "the Samba".

Damn Davo... Thats some shitty luck, but Paul's ideas are solid as you no doubt know... I huge help he has been on Shoptalk... If your thinking of
fitting that steel intermediate mount/gusset through the case, you could get one laser cut using the contour of the gasket.... I have one here that
was made for my bus box and its nice POK.... I'm sure you could built mounts into the profile without any issues....

How about a vertigate shifter? This could be the perfect opportunity! Something else for you to play around with and it could save some shift
time!
All those bucks for a Berg housing would go a long way towards a vertigate.

No secrets Mac,
the front shocks are stock oil shocks from KYB,
and the rears are KYB gas 'off road' that I got from Vintage many moons ago.
Neither are adjustable as far as I can tell.
It is amazing how close to stock settings 'right' is.
when you start using higher spring rates,
then better shocks are needed, but I am happy with my set up
with the only major change being the 30mm bars.
And those large bars were only there because I swapped my 26mm ones to Pete to try.
Heavier cars or more torque needs more spring rate.
The 26mm ones were what was in when I was running the blower.
Although in hind sight I would have put in the 30mm bars earlier.

The only changes from these photos are the wheely bars, brakes,
and I cut off one of the snrubs off the bus bump stop....that last change was a huge benefit.

Of interest is that yesterday, the 30th of November was 5 years since I crashed my car.
And nearly 8 years since I ran in the 9's for the first time.

how and when? and do you want a hand with making a new intermediate housing? I do a lot of laser cut work so fitting some more in wont be a prob, the
folding of a case will be fun but otherwise dont see any probs.shit it will be tuff. pm me if you want a hand. Bit bloody heavy though there is quite
a few non ferous foundries around that can cast off originals!
