Gearbox wine/grone

In my 72 beetle 1300 when im driving normaly in 3rd or 4th gear at hit speeds normaly over 70k's or when im redlining the rev's teh gear box makes a wine/grone. if i grab the stick and hold it then it stops, problem slovered. Im wondering if it is the bushes or something to do with maybe a small washer or rubber between the stick and box making a vibration, any ideas would be much appreciated????
