accelerator stuck to floor
Gday everyone, this is my first post so go easy on me 
I've owned my sweet machine for a few months and she's running great. Its a 74 camper, blue with white roof.
However, last night mid trip the accelerator stuck to the floor and will not pull up. It is not reving hard, its actually idleing really well. I
managed to be able to force the accelerator down about a centimetre which gave me the revs to limp home in 1st gear.
I don't have much skill (tools) but i was wondering if anyone could help diagnose the problem.

I think you will find that the cable or linkage has come loose or adrift at the carbie end,
this should not cost anything to fix,
get someone to help, by putting their foot on & off the pedal, while you watch what is happening in the engine bay, that is a good start

thanks, i'll get under and have a look tonight
there wont be much going on when i press the pedal tho, cos its stuck right to the floor. I cant pull it up with force. Its like its snagged on
something.
another question....what spring or mechanism returns the accelaror to the correct position. Where is the spring located?

the main thing that returns it is a spring at the engine end,
if you have an 1800 or 2litre motor (twin carb)
the spring will be immediately obvious if you lift the engine cover & look straight up
-where in Australia are you?,
if you cant lift the pedal up, the problem may be more complicted

before you go to the engine bay, take the linkages apart underneath the accellerator pedal, these get worn n crappy n get hard to move after time,
im guessing this is your problem

yeah that sounds a bit more like it....the pedal was getting a bit stiff before it stuck to the ground.
i did see that spring in the engine bay too, it seemed to be ok.
do i need to replace the linkages with new ones, or do i fix em up.?
i'm in ferntree gully kombikim, i have a friend mechanic in braeside who has already fixed her up a treat. I thought this may be a simple one.

too far away for me, sounds like pedal end, when you lift mat, yoou will see a metal cover that the linkage disappears into, it is held in with screws
that can be hard to remove because of corrosion, so spray them with WD40 similar before attempting to remove, & carefully lift cover, problem should
be immediately apparent if it is gunked up with stuff trapped under there

i would have thought that the engine would be revving high if it was just the pedal assembly that was stuck down.
i think the engine end of things where the accelerator cable hooks up to the carb might have come loose as well.

Or the cable may have snapped all but a couple of strands and jammed in the tube?

Woohoo. Replaced worn and damaged linkages, some bent  ALL GOOD.
