Problem is the guys who are buying them dont rust proof them, they rust and get scrapped. Bit bloody stupid if you ask me, there are plenty of VW's over there that just need some tlc, but its usually cheaper to buy one imported than to pay to get them properly restored, so there are less over here which pushes our prices up, blah blah moan grumble, grumble....

I agree... Get Your Own VW's.. My Kombi went for $19250 (L7855) Over there... The girl who bought it over there is going to restart what I did...

well, yes and we are also buying lots of old Yank Iron into Australia, and lots of European antiques and lot's of vintage guitars from all over the world.

I don't like it either, but it's a matter of supply and demand I guess. If we plugged the VW scene better here (and stopped excluding anyone who doesn't drive a 51-67 beelte/splitscreen kombi/early type 3) we might find they stop sending them OS.

I'm not too concerned (well at least at this stage) as it looks as though oz owners may be willing to give them up overseas as they're not getting the interest locally. So at least they're going to a relatively good home instead of being neglected or sent to the tip.

You're right...i don't think the problem is the people in the UK buying them rather more a possible lack of interest over here, though i don't know too much about our local scene to comment really.

truth is, everyone wants a splitty or an oval over here. the poms are happy with anything they can find that doesn't need major rust repairs. they realise that t25 and bays are actually better vehicles and there's a whole scene over there for people who own them. aussies need to get over the "6volt is best" crap and start hotting up everything. If the bogun holden lovers can adopt commonbores as real holdens (which they are not), then we can get over ourselves and start valuing bays, T25s and Mcpherson strut bugs.

And if you don't get it, send me all your Lbugs and bay windows, I have em. :bounce

i'm trying to ship my vw syncro from the uk, but the ozzy rules are so difficult it's almost impossible.
i can ship anything back to the uk without ANY problems, they arnt as fussy as the ozzy's they dont have stupid rules and regs like PROOF of ownership and USE in the 12 months prior to shipping! its crazy, i'm only allowed ONE personal import to Oz, yet in the UK i can import as many as i can afford, so long as the duty's etc get paid, whats the problem?

I guess it's the whole "pre 67 VWs are the only worthwhile VWs" school of thought.

Both the rat look and the cal look are heavily biased on the pre 67 side of the fence. In fact, post 67 cars seemed frowned upon by many of the so-called leaders in both those schools. Only two or three weeks back, a "hoodride" style club was advertised on here where only dumped early model cars were welcomed.

Anyway, I guess I'm encouraging people to try and think outside the box and include the later (and technically better) models.

P.s. I agree with Spook. :thumb

Of course the Caravelle ios a better truck than the split. Be 50 years wasted if it wasn't.

The split has become a status symbol & this is where it becomes a vicious circle.
Because they are seen as a status symbol, we are asking (and expecting) too much for them, the Aussies won't give you the asking price but someone overseas will. Bye bye.

Now the bays are having a big come back because no one can afford a split.

Spook, I hope you're right about bays becoming popular, coz on here all I see is people throwing good money after bad into splits.
