well, its not a volkswagen, but it starts with vo...
a very sad night last night, as i waved goodbye to my dear kombi, which had been such a big part of my life for 5 years, watched it drive of to its
new home in a warmer climate, but atleast there was consolance, as soon as i decided to say goodbye to the kombi i went looking for a suitable
replacement. i wanted something clean, great mechanically and rust wise and original, it had to look good and look distinctive.
I found this old girl down in geelong, and after many emails went down to see her with the son of the original owner, put down a deposit and went back
a week later to pick the car up from the original owner, who had owned the car for 33 of its 39 years (before selling top his son). It has original
plates, original engine (which was completely rebuiltalong with the gearbox by the original owner, an ex military mechanic and electronics expert),
even the paint is original with only a frech coat applied to the outside as the pervious owner had polished through the original paint, still has the
volvo door stickers, original glass al round including quie possibly the windscreen (has volvo symbol). there is a couple of tiny spots of rust to
fix and a could pf things to tidy up inside, but she is a joy to drive, like new mechanically, not a chip in the paint, couldnt be happier.
She is a 1967 Volvo 122S (Amazon), last of the 4 door models, and if the previous owner is right she somehow has a 123gt spec engine with 10.5:1
compression fed by twin SU's which could give it a powre uotput of upto 115bhp.
best of all it gets almost as many looks on the road as the kombi used to

by the way, these shots were taken after i had just given her a quick wash, mostly water, it hasnt been waxed yet, chrome hasnt been polished and
interior hasnt been cleaned at all in the photos (did all that later in the arvo). the paint is incredible, a few runs, but not a chip to be seen

definitely thinking whitewalls, although i recon thin stripe would look best, as for ride height, am considering a little more rake, but she is just
so original i am thinking very carefully about every modification i make (although slammed does look sweet, thanks pyro) also thanks to whoever sent
me the magazine artical photocopy, recieved it and enjoyed the read thanks!

damn thats nice, real nice... just showed the pics to my old man and he said he knew that car well and says it was a very very well looked after
car.
I'd say the whitewalls would be a good option and if i was to lower it i would only give it a mild lowering.
Good score dude :thumb

hi busbay, seriously don't stuff around with it, it is too nice to mess with (i wish mine was that good).
i had a look for the numbers of who to talk to re parts but my diary is lost somewhere in the house...
gerry lister is one of the names i was going to give you, his number is on this site. http://www.volvodownunder.com.au/ , he used to race 122's and rally 142's etc back in the day. he has lots of new and
used stuff plus is realy helpful if you get stuck doing something.
being an S model it would have had twin SU's from the factory and 115hp (not bhp), if it has a GT spec motor, ie the 10.5:1 bigger valves and a
bigger cam etc, you have scored. in some ways it wouldn't suprise me as i know you could get performance stuff fitted by the dealers.
i met a guy with a 122S that he had been ordered from the dealership with a hotter cam (GT?). when he ordered it he was worried as all his friends
drove hotted up holdens and he didn't want to be embarrised... the volvo spanked them all.
is yours 4 speed or overdrive?
btw if you can find a copy of "Volvo Down Under" it is an interesting read
henry.

There is one of these but a 2 door wagon near were I live that I see from time to time, very similar to my early square on side profile. Love it.

thanks all! whatnow, i have all the paperwork from the car dating back to 92 (although i also have the original stamped warranty book and handbook
) so i have a pretty good idea of who to contact about parts, and
have volvodownunder marked down in my favourites. fascinating to here what you say about the factory fitted hot motors, i hadnt heard of it before,
but considering the previous owners knowledge of mechanics i am enclined to believe him that oit is 10.5:1 (therefore GT spec) i have contacted a guy
in the US who tells me he can tell the type of engien from the codes so i will have to wait and see what he says.

That wagon is sexual.
and you sedan ain't half bad, either
I'd like to see some bigger steel rims on it tho, and an inch or so (or 4) of the height gone
I'll have to keep an eye out as you're around my side of town.

haha, no hat yet, still working on that. love the SEMA wagon, have it as my pc background, the black sedan is sweet as well. cant believe how nice
this thing is to drive. coils all round, smooth all synchro 4spd, cushy bucket seats, disks on the front, unreal for '67. just noticed on the volvo
clob of vic there is another one in similar condition, maybe someone else can snap up a bargain too!

just confirmed with a volvo expert that he is running the uprated engine, basically the engine from the P1800S, 115hp with 10.5:1 comp, so approx
85-90kw i think, not bad for a car that weighs about 1100kg (about the weight of a type 3)
