[WTB - QLD] WANT up to $1000? i got a budget, after a dub. offer any
am a SERIOUS buyer. I have my eyes on alot of cars, waiting for some dealers to return a few calls tomorrow too.
I need something within the next fortnight. The baja project is no where near due to finances being diverted / saved for a regoed car for a long
distance road trip coming up. very soon.
any dub will do, but... must either have some sort of rego or rwc. i am willing to assist in helping making that happen (ie: if a little quick
fix/work needs to be done). It doesn't worry me if the car body and interior is ugly or bad, as long as it passes rwc/rego and the motor/gearbox and
rest of the running gear is good, then i'm happy.
Please, NO SILLY TIMEWASTERS OR COMMENTS inregards to ur opinions of me buying another and not have finished the project. I need a road car here and
now and urgently.
Hurry to save me buying a 93' holden appollo and a VL commodore that i have been looking at and very well contimplating. (they are really nice price,
efi, air cond, pwrd steering)... but dubs got character.
give me a u2u, email, sms or ring on 0405 843 696 or (07)38079182

both them cars if cheap will have problems,,as for the front wheel drive, cost heaps to fix the worn out cvs ,
cheap vl well its rear wheel drive, and i had a cheap one with 400ks on it and it was great,i think the vl suffer with the over drive in the auto, under
80ks you need to keep it off the over drive,
good luck go with the old tonna..........

The Camry would be more likely to be more reliable. Don't get put off by front wheel drive. Usually the interior degrades with age, but the
mechanicals are good reliable Toyota.

hi Tim. thanx for the offer mate. will definitely think about it. I would need to negociate a rwc certificate for the sale. and i would be wiling to
pay the extra to get it, if I were to go that way.
So far, i did some research on the vl. $1500 with onroad costs. 230,000 kms on the clock. According to some background research into the models they
did have trouble with the overdrive in the autos, someting about a slipping clutch. However, their engines are one of the best of the old series,
cause it is the last of the old series. The engines were 3ltr v6's (the model i'm looking at anyways) from nissan, that were the 3ltr engineered
versions adapted from the old 280zx's. They were specifically engineered for a 400,000km life span. Should be plenty of life in this old girl then...
maybe. it is an auto though, would have to test drive on the freeway to see how it goes... This is being sold at a dealership too.
The Golf's are kool too. Not sure if dad would approve. will see, definitely will be in my mind tim. I know dad is head over heals for the vl. its
LPG too...
THanx guys also for your other suggestions, well appreciated.

The VL is a straight 6, not V6.
They can suffer from head gaskets and head cracks as the radiator is a little lower than in a Skyline, and they can get air pockets causing
overheating. They really really like to have quality coolant at the right ratio too.
The front suspension struts quite often fag out.
Front floor and seat runners fatigue crack.
As with a lot of 80's cars, the plastic in the interior is atrocious and all different shades of faded plastic.
Rust around the front windscreen is very very common also.
All things considering, they are reasonable for a 20 year old car, and can be serviced by almost any mechanic.

I appreciate that helbus...
oh man! it makes the old trusty vw so much more inviting...
or i wait another 6 months with a full time job / apprenticship and get myself a loan and a ford ftv ute...
probably would pay off to save a little more and get something thats gonna last.
I don' need another project (wah!)

Be warned of the VL commodore being sold by a second hand car dealer for $1000!!
There is a VERY high probability that it is a time bomb waiting to happen. Save some more money and get something a little more decent.
I own a 94 Charade 270000 ks on the clock and the most reliable car I have EVER owned....could pick one up for not much more than $2000 with rwc.
Mitsubishi mirages are bullet proof and suzuki swifts are almost indestructable and could be had for around what u have....you need to have a look in
the trading post and buy private.
I had a mate who owned a camry/appollo (88 model), did a head gasket after about 3 months I think.
Another tip, $1000 vw's are not what u want if u want reliability....but are great fun.
Good luck.

I second the charade.
Small, goes well, economical +++ very low cost for tyres etc. Very unlikely to be pinched.
When you are a pov student a slowish cheap to run can that can be parked anywhere, anytime that will start everytime is a big score.
The commodore would be a bucket for that pric.
Dont buy from a dealer. You are hardly to pick many of the faults, it probably has a 'phone-worthy' ans you will do your dough.
Private sale- buy a car that dont get flogged and gets booked service. Charade etc, steer clear of excels though.
luck
kkk

Charades are a great option, I have one and they are great lil runabouts.
1 litre (993cc) 3 cylinder, uses shit all fuel. (Especially compared to my Land Rover).
So you grew up with power and learnt to drive using a powerful Commodore eh?
Lucky you are really experienced.

Charade? Don't be like that! Go Timmy's Golf, and you'll still have change after Rego.
You also will know the difference at the bowser big time!
Horizontal lovin' isn't really the best in the Golf though!
