[WTB - NSW] rubber boots for ball joints
hey, Im after the rubber boots for the ball joints in the front end of my 69 fasty
where can I get them?
I want them basically ASAP so this project can get moving along

Hi,
Possibly the only place would be REPCO....
only place I could find beetle ball joint boots...
The local [30kms] REPCO store had different sizes in stock
REPCO Tie Rod/Ball joint Boot kit TE3 contains 2 boots.
the TE3 - Two in packet small hole 16mm & the Outer size hole : 34mm
this is VW part number 113 498 361 [boot or ball joint?]
fits the top ball joint in My 1968 ball joint Beetle.
I was lucky enough to have a New top ball joint
[with a ripped boot] to try the boot on...
some books say top and bottom boots are the same and some give different part numbers for the top and bottom boots??
I haven't tried to fit one on a bottom ball joint yet...
so can't help You there...
TE1= 12mm 26mm
TE2= 12mm 29mm
TE3= 16mm 34mm
TE4= 14mm 34mm
Then there are;
BJ5 = 14mm 40mm
BJ6 = 19mm 40mm
TE7 = 50mm 64mm
Not sure what these look like... Maybe larger all over...
these numbers are off the REPCO plastic bag.
make sure You grease the boot at the small hole, otherwise when they turn , the top grabs and the boot rips... happened to 3 of mine and one tie rod

If the rubbers are gone then more than likely the Ball joints are buggared as well.
You need to get a torsion arm bar that will load the joint up to check if there worn, check it out at yr local VW shop
It will probally be cheaper to but the whole assy than just the rubber

Well if anyone is interested, Repco sell boots that fit the Balljoints and are quite cheap.... Time will tell if the quality is any better than the
boots that came with the joints.
TE-2 for the lower Balljoints RRP inc GST $8.89 a pair
TE-3 for the upper Balljoints RRP inc GST $8.69 a pair

Most VW shops want to sell You New ball joints or tie rod ends...
and don't import boots at all...
When i bought My Ball joints one had a ripped boot..
I was sent a complete ball joint... instead of a boot... lol
Boots seemed to be made of a non rubber- shiny material...
I had rubber CV joint boots also... well they only cracked...
I replaced them with Yellow Polyurethane boots... excellent..

NOT SO-
Mine were all new....
turned the steering wheel...
and the ball joints turned but the boots twisted and ripped open...
I found tie rod ends had done the same thing...
more lithium based Moly grease fixed the problem..
