Coolant - Blue and new Purple
Been meaning to consult forum about different coolants for quite some time. My T3 currently has blue coolant. I can only get hold of the new purple
coolant. Is it ok to mix the new purple coolant with the older blue as I have been told? |

Thanks - thats how I was thinking. Anyone know where the nearest garage stocking G11 coolant would be to Bega area (2550)? |

Hey i was in bega about 5yr ago and there used to be a bloke that worked on VW's and thats all.
If i remember correctly going down the main drag of Bega nd chuck a left before woolies(Notsure), If i remember corectly there was a doctors surgery/
clinic in the street i am trying to direct u down. Any way after chucking left before woolies go all the way to the end of street and here's where i
am unsure of direction but i would go left again and the said mechanic is on the right hand side of road about midway down street.
Otherwise try up and down this street u r in now as i know he was there somewhere. It was a while ago and i had only just purchased my first T3.
Here:
Main drag/Princess hwy turn left at Canning street, all the way to the end and turn left. Scan right hand side of Bega street, he the mechanic was
about midway of street.

G11 is the Blue Coolant
G12 is the Red Coolant
G12+ is the Purple Coolant
G11 & G12 should not be mixed, but G12+ can be mixed with either G11 or G12.....
So if you have G11 in your car, get some G12+ and it will be fine.

your directions are much appreciated 'IwishIhadasynchro' - unfortunately the said mechanic has left the region since mid 2006.
ok - so purple (G12+) is good to go with blue (G11), this is contrary to what 'greedy53' believes....whats the consensus here? |

Damm
it is wise "NOT" to mix any coolant apart from the commoners variety, supercheap and garage types of coolant, emergency stuff.
G11 is Green
Blue must be some kinda throwback from Brissi:P
G12 i agree is Purple G12+ not sure on colour so i will go with the flow.
Mixing coolants causes reactions within each coolant. Clagging is the worse case scenario where the chemical mixture from each coolant combines to
turn into a sort of jelly like substance.
Use caution and always flush system throughly and replace with one type of coolant in this case G12, better, newer, as the g11 is phased out.
Oh and good luck finding info from a VW dealer if they dont sell the car or part they cant tell u much apart from what is in front of them.
(computerscreen) Its nothing personal more so to the new age parts rep it's a job not a passion.

Don't know where you bought your G11 from, but it is and should always be blue, not green.
G12 is red, and the new stuff that does both is pink.

Yeah if its purple its G12+
Make sure you drain out the green coolant and run the whole system on demineralised water for a couple of days then flush that out before you use the
G12+

What about temp operation with demineralised water??
And can we use a radiator flush treatment??
Last drop of fluid i did was on brotherinlaws T3. Flushed the whole system and every line from heater back. Then refilled with de-mineralised water
and G12+; must have used about 12 litres of demineralised water + 3 litres of G12 so that leaves about 2 litres of tap water???
