On again Off again On again Off...

Um, a few months back I found some rust in front end of kombi and panicked! :-D

I then inquired here to kombi's value in rusty state and later posted it for sale... sorta.

I have decided to get my hands dirty and have a go at fixin' it.

So, anyways, I have created a pic gallery of kombi: Shano Insano's Rusty Kombi

Having read welding sticky but not having any experience at welding whatsoever do you guys have any suggestions as how to proceed?

First step would be to acquire a quality MIG welder. I would suggest no less than 140 Amp power and for best results hire a gas bottle and weld with BOC Argoshield 52 gas or equivalent. I suggest not using flux cored 'gasless' wire. This excercise will probably cost you up to $800 minimum for the machine, safety gear and gas. Up to you to decide if that is suitable for you.

You can also do a course at a TAFE college and learn welding, panel beating and spray painting. All up to you to decide if you want to go down that path.

A welding course at TAFE certainly sounds like a plan.

I'm fairly competent at panel work, bogging, fibre glassing and paint etc just not the welding bit ;-)

I even considered brazing sections, but, yeah you are right, get myself to TAFE ...
