question re club rego in NSW.

I'm looking at buying a 1970 beetle rally car at the mo and I'm curious to know whether I'd be able to have it on club rego. The car itself if almost bone stock apart from hotter motor (with period style mods) and a roll cage, proper racing seats and safety harnesses and being stripped out for racing. Heck, even the mags that come with it are period style. It was built for a rerun of a classic rally a few years back and has CAMS PRC log books.

Would this style of car be elligable for club rego in NSW?

Seems like it would be to me. Who's in the know? What VW clubs in Sydney do classic rego now?

First of all you have to belong to a VW car Club, and in Club Vee Dub Sydneys case we want to " Get to know you " as well, as the club plate scheme is not a right it has to be earnt, as a privilage.

The car has to be basically stock, so the roll cage would have to go, also the BIG engine

Thanx dave,

I wanted to join a VW car club last year, but I couldn't get to any of the meeting let alone the events cause my work is on Sundays and Weeknights. The closest I got to going to an event was Valla, and let's not talk about what happened to me on the way there. :(

So I'd really like to be a member, it's just that my work gets in the way.

As for the car, the motor is only a 1600 (1584cc), as per PRC class rules. Again, it's mostly stock internals. The cage/seats/harnesses are only there for safety and to satisfy CAMS regulations. Is there some way around that or do people get super strict?

Pete. I don't know about NSW but here in WA a car needs to be bog standard with only in period cosmetic non modifying changes like steering wheels permitted for it to be on club rego. I assume that most states will be like that.

Hi

There is a vintage rally car club and believe that Craig Torrens is in it, maybe they can help. I was always under the impression that period accessories could be fitted, mags, motor mods etc.

well that's what I thought. Leigh Harris had a 68 bus on club rego on here last year and it had empi 5 spokes and a roof rack and some other stuff. THere was also an oval race/rally car that was on here last year. I'm pretty sure it was club registered too. Heck, I'm happy to change some stuff back to standard to get club rego, but the cage/seats/harnesses and motor really need to stay as they are for it to BE a rally car.
