Wheel and Brake combo for my 58 beetle daily driver

Hi All.

I need everyones help :thumb

I've been really keen to install the new 17" Rader wheels on my 58 beetle daily driver. The problem being that the car is receiving a 1916 that should have reasonable power output and a close ratio transaxle and I need disc brakes. Classic Vee Dub's disc brake conversion is great but can't be used with dropped spindles. CB Performance brakes look ok but no body can advise what the calipers are and the pads they use. I really want 4 wheel discs so the cost of the rear is added. I really don't want to engineer my own setup - still suffering brain fry from my purple bug.

The alternative is to go with Polished Fuchs (15x4.5 front and 15x6 rear) late model discs drilled 5x130 on CB Performance dropped disc spindles and late twin pin calipers. A rear disc conversion is pretty straight forward as well.

What do you think? - Refer attached pic of the car in question....

Go the CB set up with spindles, just have to do some research on the spares, or be prepared to buy replacements from CB again. On a side note, Ive heard that 17" brms are comin in wide5 now also.

One reply and one vote....???

I've had a U2U suggesting an easy way to go disc on the front is to use late vw discs and calipers on CB dropped dics spindles and use wheel adapters. Although widening the track I'm currently building a 3" narrowed beam at the moment which would help.

drop spindles

I have the cb wide five discs.
you can just order the pads from them no problem.

As for vvd set up I thought they worked on drop spindles?

Also if you interested I have a set of cb drop spindles for disc brakes on a k&L front end. I are selling.

A couple of photoshops...comments?

Thought the raders could be detailed similar to the Fuchs.

Corrin had advised that they don't fit dropped spindles as the caliper mount that’s the problem; the bottom link of the stub comes too close and touches the disc. .
