Cool speed holes!

Talking about collectors and such, I recently got a program from the US to calculate pipe size and length.

It gives a lot of info on primary AND collector length(n/a) but it seems design of shape,
is less important than length.

The program guy said that the spiffy style like you gave done keeps up the speed(perfest for turbo),
and increases low speed torque, and gives it a wider spread of torque.

Are you boosted? And what primary size will you choose?

What do you use to cut the pieces up for the collector before welding Westi?

when i got my heads flowed ,1 3/4 produced the best flow for the exhaust ,so i have started with that size in mind.n/a all the way.but in saying that it realy depends on the power out put and how keen i am to go fast.
as for the cutting of collectors,i can't give away all the tricks of the trade.
just kidding.
all you need is a square bit of rhs with a hole cut in one of the corners.it is hard to explain,i am going to make a set of collectors later today,so i will take some pic's for u

here is a few pic's of one of the ways that you can skin a cat(cougar)
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n1/westibug/P3280832.jpg
start with some bent steel 10 to 15 degree's

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n1/westibug/P3280833.jpg
ad one jig

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n1/westibug/P3280834.jpg
rotate pipe till warm

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n1/westibug/P3280835.jpg
lock into position.

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n1/westibug/P3280837.jpg
use your depth gauge reader to insure that you do them all the same.

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n1/westibug/P3280836.jpg
use thin felt ink applicator to mark a cut line

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n1/westibug/P3280838.jpg
now you are ready to use the high speed spark thrower to seperate the unwanted material.

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n1/westibug/P3280841.jpg
re insert wanted material into the jig that we had prepared earlier.

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n1/westibug/P3280840.jpg
count your fingers before starting the even higher speed metal straightner

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n1/westibug/P3280841.jpg
after completing step one, repeat 3 more times

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n1/westibug/P3280842.jpg
now you are ready to use the slow speed multi tooth de buring tool.

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n1/westibug/P3280843.jpg
if every thing has worked to plan this is what it should look like,so far.
http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n1/westibug/P3280844.jpg
finally we are ready for launch .place the pipes together ,and

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n1/westibug/P3280845.jpg
we have a small rocket ready for take off.

Man they fit together well, Mine weren't so good and needed a lot of filing and grinding after welding. Thanks for the guide, now I will knw for the next one. Do you start by welding the whole collector up and then work backwards? We did mine the other way and struggled to get the last weld in the collector. As I wanted it polished we welding it all up only taking the collector, then split it all apart and had it polished and then welded the collector.T54

Ooh, thats testing my memory!

Most stuff we flow tested with the manifold at least, and usually with the carb also.

I would have to guesss around 125cfm@10" @.600" lift
this is equal to...oh crap wheres my calulator with square roots!? Canaea find him!

To get it at 25", multiply by the square root of 25/10.

Same deal with 28".....multiply by the square root of 28/10 (28 divided by 10, square root the answer)

Flow at 25" is closest to possible HP if optimised, (I am miles off!)
Roger Crawford recently made 310 with 305cfm@25"
I am flowing about 280 to 290 on my two different combos.(making less than 230 (so far!))

i ruffed my head's out to what i thought might work.

i gave the heads to Pat Purcell to test ,and asked to see if he could get any more out of them.
we got 210 cfm @600 is that ok.

That is very good.
Even if flowed at 28" pressure drop.
I think that is around what Rod Richardsons heads flow(depending on if 25" or 28")
Although his were flowed with manifolds and carbs.

anyhow ,here's some pic's.
it was good te see everyone in queensland had fun @ the drags, except for fat macca and morg's.

the brakes on my car are of a 200sx,i had them laying around.
brakes are like a good engine set up ,what do want from your them ,race, street.
one of the reasons that i have chosen these brakes rather than a full custom set up is money, the other is praticality,if i ever have a problem with any of the parts they are of the shelf and easy to source.
front disc's are falcon $100 each,the rear are 200 sx s 14 $80 each,caliper's are all 200 sx s 14 $300 the lot.

the set up on my car will pull a 1450kg car up quiet well ,so it should be awsome on an 800kg car.
tell me roughly how much you had in mind as a budget ,what the car weight is,wheel size and main use for the car,and i can tell you which parts you need to buy, then all you need is a local machine shop ,and your in business.

Good idea, and for interest sake you could upgrade to R32 GTST or GTR rear brakes easily too if you want more rear end braking. These are direct bolt ons for the S14 200sx. Cheap too because a lot of rice burner owners upgrade to better brakes and can't offload their old parts.
