NO BRAKES!!

Last fryday night my 58 beetle lost her brakes
leaking right hand front wheel cylinder, I thought !
spent the afternoon replacing the offending
cylinder ,regreasing the bearings bleeding the brakes
etc, etc, etc, had good firm pedal driving out the gate
and no brakes at the end of the street !!!:cry
me thinks it might be master cylinder
any ideas ????

I THINK I WILL sit down and have a beer now!!:puke

surely if you fill the master cylinder and pump the brakes you should be able too find the wet spot ,,,,even if you get someone to help

All part of the fun, you are not alone ...
I bought a seemingly straight 62 1/2 off here 18 months ago only to find out at the top of the hill into Newport Beach that I was livin on a prayer..
Lucky I was able to turn into a side street (using both lanes) to stop...

Nothings guaranteed with bugs, if its any consolation the same car went up in huge flames on Mona Vale Road with me & my wife in it @ 7am 3 months later...

Lesson learnt: never mind the brakes, check your fuel lines...often...

consider a later dual circuit MS. If one wheel fails at least you can still stop.

Mine leaks oil there all the time. the open decklid means the oil gets all over the right hand side tail light.
I'm also out of brakes. Lost the fluid last week. Leaked out of the reservoir bottle onto the front beam. Pedal got longer & longer until thursday when it went to the floor on the way home.
The little hose that joins the reservoir to the master cylinder is split but looks like it's been there since 1963.

All the breathers are good. It only leaks from the crank pulley if I rev it too hard. I think another breather may need to be plumbed in.
