No - they are standard in my 75L Super as well.

My 74 had non-retractable

Mine are fine. You see them for sale regularly
I bought a set last Nats for a friends 73 L

DO NOT RISK USING SEATBELTS THAT ARE MORE THAN 10 YEARS OLD.

did you hear that?! UV/Ozone/fatigue all sap around 40 percent of the belt's strength after a decade

Brand-new seatbelts are available that bolt in directly where factory retractable VW belts are fitted standard. About $100 ea. Worth it!

Hi

I went to my local general car parts store and asked about retracbale seat belts, apparently a place in Melbourne makes them.

My only comment to this is that if the new belts do not comply with the relevent Australian Sandard, then you may not have insurance cover. Check that before you do anything.

It's my understanding that recent belts from another car that fit and do the job may not comply with the dreaded Australian Design Rules for your car even if they are off a car that does. Check such things first.

You may even need an engineers report to be fully legal.

in queensland i am quite sure you have to use new belts and if it is getting mouted differently then you will need an engineers report.

yeah, actually, my Cab has retractible rears. But they're lap-sash only. I reckon lap/sash rears in a Beetle sedan would be cool... but they'd need a 'custom' floor mount and, of course, an engineer's A-O-K
