Finally some pics of my Hong Kong and Beijing trip

Finally found some time to resize a few pics of my Hong Kong and Beijing trip. Hong Kong was amazing - dripping with money, BMWs, Mercs, Rollers everywhere. Great food, and a great nightlife for going out, eating and shopping. Shops open to well up to midnight - everynight - with the streets constantly packed.

Only had one real afternoon off for sightseeing in Hong Kong, which was a chance to get away from the City itself. Was 24' there, so the temp wasn't too bad.

Beijing was another story. Progressive and historic, all within a 5 min walk of my hotel. The city is abuzz with development for the Chinese growth and embracing of a capitalist approach, and for the Olympics itself. On the latter, they have a lot of work to do.

I had a full weekend too myself there as well between work, so go to see Tian-an-men Square, The Forbidden City and the Zoo on one day, and then the next day got a trip to the Ming Tombs and the Great Wall. I figured, if you travel that far for work, you may as well make the most of it. Beijing was quite cold, as Craig T can testify when he called me one cold morning as I was standing in the middle of Tian-an-men Square in 2' C.

The shopping was great in both cities. You get great value for your HK$ and Yuan.

View from our meeting room in Hong Kong looking across to Kowloon.

South Gate to the Forbidden City with Mao's picture. I didn't go into his tomb as you couldn't take in bags...which was a bit of a bummer.

Having a coronary climbing the wall whilst getting pestered by hawkers. Nearly bought 5 Tags for 100 yuan. LOL.

Great pics mate brought it all back

Loved HK and china, when to shanghai on the train from HK. That was fun. china is mad

highlights were everyone saying hello to me. When I knew know one.

Going to the wrong zoo, they did try to tell me and thinking most of the animals were dead :o

seeing a coah loads of timbetans on a sightseeing trip to the bund.

and the coach trip that nearly ended in disaster when the road just dropped two feet and we had to do an emergency stop. Then they wait for the police to turn up and then argue it all out while all the time we are waiting for a truck to hit us up the rear.

We got a taxi in the end. No more coach trips

Not one aircooled VW in sight, but loads of old Passats being used as Taxi's in Beijing.

It was crazy packed everywhere. The roads are nuts. The people are great though, and I was one of the tallest people on the subway, which for me is a hard ask. The subway was a blast. 50c single ticket gets you anywhere in Beijing. What a bargain system, and the trains are spotless. So much work there....people opening doors, sweeping, etc etc paid a pittance but people are working. Lots of hawkers which was a little annoying, and watching them run for cover when the cameras swung around on the Great Wall was funny.

The business wants me to go again sometime, so I'm looking forward to it. Next stop Bangalore in a few weeks.
