Best way to paint a scallop?

Hi people!
I've decided i'm going to jazz gwen up a bit.. this is how she currently looks:

This is the look i'm going for..
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i255/josie_ladybird/jo_tas_notch.jpg
Just want to know what is the best way to mark up and paint that scallop? I don't really care about how well its done as long as it looks neat for atleast a weekend! The paint is pretty crappy but solid.

Basically, just want to make my car stand out a bit.. make her more interesting for the Bug-In!

yar, that looks the goodz!

i'm the first to admit mine are rough as, prolly sumthin to do with too many bundys on a boring Sunday arvo and some spare rattle cans hanging around, but heres what i learnt and took note of for "next time"

mask one side till you get it how you want.....

to get it the same on the other side........

a good place to take measurments from is at the front and rear of the door.....from joining these points you can continue say, up to the chrome strip below your rear window..
or forward to the curve you like behind the wheel arch.......

a template for the curve near your wheel arch would also be handy, maybe one that runs from the crome stip right down to the bottom sill...........

measure up or down from the lower edge of the door and chrome strip as well as along them too......

i'm coming more from the striping of busses and trucks angle as that's what i'm used too...........remember you can only see one side of a car at a time.....until you stand in front of it with the doors open:smirk:

it's heaps fun, go for it

thatll look good, lay the mask edge with some vinyl pinstriping, basic spray mask vinyl will do even cheap crap, i can get a 12mm stripe cut from scrap if you want it, run the curve by hand, lick your finger and run it along as you hold the roll with your other hand, slowly making the arc.. as for the straight bits, lay it down by tacking one end and pulling and tacking down the other end, dont rub your hand along the stripe to attach it, that will warp it, tap it down along the stripe... once the vinyl mask edge is there, mask the rest with low tack masking tape, and newspaper, spray with what ever you want and pull back once done.. a few hours and a few beers and its done. .. get tricky and get a contrast colour and blend the leading edge in.. post the progress pics!..

turnaround, 1 day, the rest is shipping.. when i say 'cheap' thats cause you want it for one show, cast (7year) material add twenty bucks a side...as you say, food for thought, ... id suggest masking it, spraying and wet and dry back over sections to show the paint under... just my 2c ;).. however if you want to take it off later, vinyl is the best option..

You going to do the drop too Jo? We've been hassling you for ages to slam the girl. The scallop looks great too. Ryan knows his stuff - maybe vinyl it first, and if it's not your thing, then you can at least peel it off.

go the vinyl option.
I stick some on my van to see if I'd like them.
Now I'm thinking about pulling them off, it'll be a lot easier.
