How much power does you stereo need? It must be pretty big to dim the headlights. Are you running an amp and subs?
The place in the US you are referring to is probably the DDR. They do a number of different size alternator kits for type 3's. Considering the
weight, shipping will cost a bit.
I think a "cap" is a capacitor. You can fit 1 or 2 Farrad capacitors to help deliver power to the stereo smoothly

A neat solution. Would be good to find out what alternator and make your own strap and measure up for the belt. Their kit makes it easy though. A
good mod to a type three.

iev posted it on hoodride as well and some youg guy has 1 of the ddb 1s hes gona take a few pics and post them. Being in yank land its probably an
altinator you cant get here.
Making the strap and sorting the electrics shoudn't be to hard its the altinator itself thats the problem. To any 1 who is after a consealed sub box
in a type 3 i can post some piks in afew weeks when i get my new camera it is built in under the back seat on the oposit side to the battery
ive got to perfect it this weekend to get maximum bass out of the 10" sub
Thanks

yeah a cap is a capacitor. Put simply, it soaks-up electrical grunt and makes it available to the amps for the split-seconds they need it to drive the
woofer. If your lights are 'flashing' during big woofer excursions - my understanding - then an alternator won't help...

JB HiFi sells capacitors. They start at around $250 from memory.
I read somewhere that some Mitsubishi alternators fitted to early model RX7's are the right size to fit in the saddle on the fan housing. The parts
no's I have are:
A5T20374 - 50Amps- 70's RX7
A5T30575 - 55Amps- early 80's RX7
A2T04474 - 70Amps- late 80's RX7
Don't know if it's true as I haven't tried it. If anybody gets a chance to grab one from a wrecker and try it out let us know how it goes.
