Titanium retainers are much lighter than steel and worth every cent.
Their fatigue life is as good as chrome moly yet about half the weight.
Sometimes this sort of weight saving will prevent the need
to step up to the larger size springs.
Are the valves using a VW stem and collet?
Some guys have used single groove collets and chev size stems
so there is a few different sizes available. I think that these are the details that Nick needs.

but what about the rest of the junk hanging off the engine weight wont be important strength would be if you were going to high revs all
the time

The weight of titanium retainers is an advantage to valve train control.
There is more to weight saving than just the mass accellerating in a straight line.
This is true for rotational weight as well as reciprocating.
For small and large parts.

yes that is true and i understand teh advantage and use it where appropiate but what about the rest of the Kilos that are involved with the car
if all other components are HEAVY then the valve train retainers are a W A S T E of time

Waste of time for some.
But not for me.
I found the retainers to be nearly half the weight of a chromoly retainer
and exteded my point of valve control by 500 rpm.
I am always happy to contibute something
that I have found to be worthwhile.
Just because YOU think it is a waste of time Dave, does not make it so.

I have a set of GB titanium retainers for a VW stem. They are for the GB triples, if you are interested I can check if they will work with doubles.
Price $60
FWIW - I have used the remmelle alloy retainers as well, they also work very well, and are lighter again.

It depends on what doubles you have! You'll have to measure them.
I ran the berg titanium retainers for triples and use the berg triple springs without the small inner, thus ended up being a double spring.
I must say the berg retainers and springs were a really nice tight fit!
