Chasing info on this Tachometer..

Hi all
Picked up this tacho on the weekend, and just wondering if anyone has seen one before? Any idea when it was made? It looks old.. and the electrics are very basic looking!
Any info would be great!
(I already asked this in a post in the tech section but thought i might have more luck here)

By looking at the pic I"d say late 70's to very early 80's. I have a Smith's tacho on an old Honda that my Dad and i have and it looks very similiar to that and he bought it late 70's for a car at the time. The one in the pic I would say is a copy of the Smith's Tacho I have. Switch on the back is to switch from 4 cylinder to 2 cylinder etc etc to suit the engine configuration on the car you're putting in on.

another guess. I think the label must mean 4 stroke 4 cyl - 2stroke 2 cylinder / 4 stroke 6 cylinder - 2 stroke 3 cylinder. It looks pretty much same as older VDO tachos but I've never seen a japanese one.

Cool.. so with the red, i need to hook it up to the fusebox on the same fuse as the headlights? I was just going to put it somewhere that gets power when the ignition is on..

Headlight fuse was just an example. You're right, anywhere that get power when ignition is on, but not off. Your stereo is probbaly another good place. If its not a switched power source you'll drain your battery albeit slowly when switched off.

"back in the day.." trying hard NOT to show my age.....everything you ever wanted for your car from the best selection af mags to tyres and auto go-fast bitz could be bought from Kmart. It used to be what the go fast shops now days try to be.Kmart racing was BIG business and they still sponsor stuff now.The Kmart stigma could take a while to get used to though....there was no Supercheap etc back then.
