What's a good source of steel to practice welding on?
As my title suggests, I am looking for advice as to what is the best steel to practice welding on. I got a MIG and want to learn how to use it before
I touch my beetle.
Should I buy some new steel? Or should I just get some old car bonnet (not vw of course) and practice on that?
Thanks
-Rob

drive past your nearest big smash shop in the dead of evening and grab some old door skins from the dumpster, everyone loves dumpster rummaging dont
they!?
or you could just ask them I suppose.

Any steel panels will do. Try too much gas, not enuf, fast feed, slo feed, lotsa amps, not enuf etc. Get a feel for it. Metwiz (I think) is a good
site.
Also, if you know someone who is a gun welder get them to take you through it, much easier to get you started.
