Should we combine VW Nationals & Bug In ?

Hello My Fellow Dubbers
:thumb

Should we combine VW Nationals & Bug In ?

What is you opinion ?

Can it be done ?

Hi guys I've discussed this with Yiorgos and a friend of mine.

We need a combined Watercooled and Aircooled VW Show.

Something that rivals the US and Euro shows something big and glossy.

Something uniquely Australian

Proposed contacts need for an event this size

I was very impressed by the watercooled effort at the Nationals. I hear it took a lot of coordinating, but the quality and variety of cars was the best I have ever seen at the Nats. Well done guys!

I still think a combined National event to rival the US & Euro shows is in order, one where all the clubs & forums come together.

Well you just have to get on your clubs committee and put forward the ideas you have.
Thats how simple it is.

Really what I'm trying to say is All the Clubs contribute in one way to make it a really big event.
The Clubs are the WE ;)

I know this won't happen within a year due to politics but I'm just throwing the idea out there.

I know I'm very optimistic :D

I do not know the 1st thing about organization ?????? :D

So really this thread is just a place to throw ideas around to see how we can get every club involved ;)

While the Nationals & Bug In are great shows in their own right I feel as a Young Enthusiast something BIG with everyone involved is needed.

Now I know no One club would have the $$$$$$ for something this size thats why we need to come together as Enthusiasts for the brand.

Yes I rabbit on and it may all just be a :sandrine fairytale idea but its something we need IMO.

Cheers
Ben

Its probably a little easier to stage something like that in England where there are 60 million people living within 300kms of the event, plus greater europe is just a 50km trip through the tunnel.

Half of Australians probably dont leave their home state in their lives. Apart from a few hundred on this forum, not too many would venture across the country for a VW show, and you would need thousands to support that event. If you could get every person who goes to dubs by the pub, and then every person who goes to Valla, every person who goes to nationals, and bug ins... then you might go close. Finding somewhere that could accomodate them all would be another challenge. Who would organise such a thing? I struggle to keep up with my work organising a hillclimb for 50 cars. You would definitely have to quit your day job. Where would the money for a venture like that come from? Do you put it all on your credit card and hope to god people come so that you can pay it off?

Phaeton, I think Amazeer has hit the nail on the head. Australia has to few people living too far apart to manage anything more than Valla. And really and truly the event you're talking about is what Valla pretty does.

The other thing is, the rate of attrician caused by living such a long distance from eachother has an effect on who goes too. In England, you can nurse a sick car to an event and back. In Oz going to Valla (the closest big event bar the nationals) from sydney is a 6 hour drive. There's no way a sick car can be nursed for 12 hours there and back. As VWs get older it becomes a more expensive hobby too. If you have a low millage original, a high $$$ restored car or a show car, you really want to put it on a trailer, which means more $$$. And if you don't there's the real chance you won't make it due to mechanical problems just due to the age of the car.

I think local shows are the best idea....shame though.

That said, i'm still planning to drive Gwen up to Valla next year! (I hope) :bounce
And don't discount the old cars.. A friend and i were bored the other day and ended up going on a 5 hour drive! And Gwen certainly isn't perfect..
