help needed regestration woes
guys finally passed roadworthy in victoria for my 60 ghia ,i went to vic roads yesterday to book in for regestration when i was asked for the previous
regestration of the vehicle .now the problem with that is the guy i purchased it from purchased it in the early 80's as a project with no rego the
guy he got it off also had it as a project so she has been off the road probably since the late 70's .with no rego number i got no reg ,i think the
car may have come from WA as i found WA newspapers stuffed in the heater channels has anyone got a solution for me .or perhaps someone has some old
plates off a 59/60/61 beetle from tas or wa or vic that havent been on th road for years that i could use to get around the problem the car is a
genuine RHD Aust delivered ghia its not stolen just fell out of the loop for 30+ years many thanks chris 0413840010

the wa and tas references are because they are not connected to the vicroads system . I have pulled three cars from paddocks and had no problem
registering them over the years ,bit scared about the T model Ford hot rod i am just about to purchase

is there any plate to say that it is aus delivered? ring vicroads, there may well be (should be) a limit on the number of years back you have to go to
find a rego - ie if it hasnt been on the road for 30 years they probably dont have the original info anymore so you shouldnt have to find it. surely
there is some sort of ID plate on the car?

Yeah, there shouldn't be any dramas with getting rego - if it's not 'in' the system, so what? As long as it's not 'rebirthed' and meets safety
regs, it should go 'in' easily...? It does in NSW...

yeah qld a bit the same specially if your doin a baja or alike..
this one time at... i was regoing my 71 twin cab ute, when the 'lady at the counter' came out to verify the numbers she was impressed how i cut down
a 'regular kombi' into a ute style..
needless to say her next comment was 'wheres the blue plate and engineers report' before i could get it regoed.. :duh
after assuring the dear that it was a factory item and then the rest of the staff came to my way of thinking it got regoed.. phew..
anyway the story seems the same which ever state you go in..

Yet when an acquaintance of mine took his wildly modified, non-engineered car to Vicroads, he took it on a trailer because it was too wild to drive,
and because he actually used the original engine block that had the engine number that was correct for the chassis, and he had the original rego
papers from about 20 years ago. They checked the numbers, stamped the papers, and he was re-rego'ed. The car wouldn't have passed engineers
inspection let alone should have been that easy.

Ring Vic roads ask what the go is in this situation , i think you will get a diffrent story. Vic roads only keep refrence of rego for 7 years. i will
look see if i have some plates for you.

I think you only need a receipt from the seller. They like to know the previous reg 'cos they simply pull the car up and re-register. Otherwise they
have to start again, but I don't think it'll slow you down by not having it. Happens all the time.

Yeah nothing came up 'cos they ditched all their old records...dumb b'tards. She's just assuming cos there's no record it's an import. Really you
just gotta keep pushing them to think. Ask for the supervisor cos they're the only ones who'll think it through.

When I got a couple of daily driving permit-things from VicRoads for my Fasty I had no dramas. The chassis number was listed yet the engine number
wasn't in their system... and the old S.A plate still on the car didn't come up with anything either, but since this shows the thing had been
registered however long ago they were fine about it. They also said I shouldn't have a prob when time comes to rego as I have a receipt for buying
the car. guess it could be a different story when it comes to crunch time. :duh
Hope it all gets worked out!

Vicroads had no computer before 1978 I was told, so if it went out of rego before then, It is basically gone from any system they have, gone almost
forever.
AOMC http://www.aomc.asn.au/eng®records.htm have all of the old
manual card records from Vicroads before 1978, but there are millions, but if you have original rego number, they can look up your original data card
and you can get some information excepting any previous owners names or addresses. Cost is $55
Post 1978, If you don't have an original rego number or chassis number, yet again they are lost.
Push 'em hard, you pay, and you deserve service for that payment.
