yes it is, i'm having a "spot " of bother with the wonderful ozzy red tape! i can understand about certain oriental low standard very low safety vehicles, but not well made european cars that are built to ADR's, and have all the safety features required by law.
whats the differance between a 1992 syncro and a 1985 syncro? (clue- NONE!) so why can't i import a 1991 syncro? the cut off year is 1989, BUT WHY??? no reasons, but i'm still trying!

it will have rotted away by the time it gets out here! cheers jon

92 ahh let me see is it the better of the models???

Yeh cut off is 15 years, on the year before the 6th month of the, fifteenth yr.
Cant have someone maybe "help" U with the badging of item??
I think i remember reading a story about this problem about 4months ago?
Can u remove the motor and bring it over in parts???
I am not sure but i dont think there is a yr requirement for this operation, remove running gear and motor, seperate body, rolling gear and motor. After speaking to the australian depatrment of imports and customs i am pretty sure there was a way around your problem..
Body needs to be seperate and then running gear and motor can be crated together but split apart.
Cost is probably up but it will get here in no time..

importing my vw as parts sounds like a really good idea. i will look into it, and see what dotars have to say. i heard the vehicle has to be in 2 parts, like a front and rear chop!
the only problem with that is i'm here in oz, my vw is in uk, its along way to go to remove the motor and box etc, etc, but my mind is open,
i really want my vw here in the sun!! jon

Nah not sure on the vehicle in halves part. But i know there is a way around the problem.
Cant really recall conversation but it was something todo with seperating motor and gearbox crate then seperately and then body comes in one piece, i think?
Give the aussie import mob a call and play dumb.
Obviously it has to be cleaned but it just may be the solution.
Good luck
