Rear interior
The back is done in the same ribbed velour as the front with all new masonite 3mm boards made up by me. The rooflining has been repainted with proper
professional vinyl paint by me.

hey dude, i am after some new seats for my beetle and i was just wondering what those saas seats were like and a rough guide to the cost of them?????
some people are like slinky's
they have no useful purpose
but they are fun to watch
when you push them down the stairs

The seats are full recline operable and not too deep, otherwise they would be very difficult to get into.
They retail for about $650 each, but I found the last two of 'Billabong' style left in Autobarns in Melbourne. They just happened to be a
left and right. Cost $400 each. The first Autobarn made me the deal, and found the second one. (last one) They made the other shop sell it to me for
the same price, as they were the ones with a LH and they weren't going to sell that in a hurry.
The style stopped production about a year before I got these, so they were old stock.
They would have similar styles still.
I bolted them directly to the floor, but you can bolt them to tabs welded to lower seat slides cut off original Beetle seats. This was the
instructions if I wanted to retain the slide. I wanted them lower, so I didnt.
They also have twodoor lever with position memory, so the people in the back can get out and you dont have to find your seats position when it clicks
back.
The vinyl paint is sprayed on, and I got it mixed by an automotive trimmer that has access to a vinyl paint mixing system.
It is similar to acrylic lacquer. Yet designed for use on vinyl and plastic.
$50 for him to mix up 500ml for me. I did the roof lining and sunvisors and rear liftgate hinge covers.

You can usually pick up a set of nice seats from a japanese importer for about $250-$300, I got a full set of leather electric sports seats {front and
back} from a recent toyota MR2 for $300 the lot.
I think they will end up in herbie as he goes around corners really well and I dont, I just flop around inside the original interior holding onto the
steering wheel for grim death, not very comfortable.

Sounds like a good plan maybe will have to look into some of those for my bug / bus what importers ya go to one on the coast ?

Indeed,
Jap import places are good for modern(ish)
seats.
I have a pair of honda prelude(ish) seats in good nick in my beetle, got brackets made up for them and I'm pretty happy with them. They are
similar to the SAAS seats but the have a head rest kind of thing on them. $270 the lot from memory. I will have to put some pics of them in the
members rides section when I get around to posting my car's pictures.

PS. Also from memory, Mazda mx-5 seats
are wicked but they were $550(ish) a pair so I palmed. You might be able to find them for cheaper if you are dedicated.
Sorry about the (ish)es, one o my lecturers, kept on using them, it was farkin funny.

I have been thinking about replacing the stock front seats in my bus, you have given me some ideas, was worried about the seat tracks but just bolt
them in one position seems the answer.

We didn't worry about adjustment on the seats as I am 6'1" and Fleur is ummm about 4 inches shorter, which isn't too much. My
mechanic freaks a bit though as he is only abou 5' tall. He has to wind the top of the seat forward.
It took me a whole weekend to make sure I put them in the right position, and I even remade the brakets on the drivers side twice as I wanted it to
feel right when driving. The original seat is on a slight angle and it is a good position like that. I had it dead straight first time and it just
wasnt quite right.

I got mine from the toyota wreckers on kamholts court in ashmore but I saw heaps of nice seats for $250 at Joe and riks
mechanicals on Bailey cresent Molendinar
