Is my wheel about to fall off?
Not long ago I had to replace my DRIVERS SIDE swing axel, (it kept developing a an oil leek, I was told the shaft was probably bent), I replaced it
with a 1500 shaft. While doing this I lowerd the type 3.
Anyway about week down the track I notice a flapping noise, the next morning the tyre is flat and has a doughnut shaped hole (exposing the metal
wire) on the tyre. Replace tyre, then that side starts rubbing the guard on left hand corners only, (it's always under the guard now its lowerd) and
car starts to "roam" at higher speeds, I check the wheel and it has some movement (wobble) with the drum but doesn't seem to be in the axel.
I'm about to pull it apart and try to find out the probleme but don't know what I'm looking for.

thing is you did 2 things at once so you have more than one vaiable.
are the axles the same length?
correct bearing cap?
is the axle nut at the correct torque with the split pin in?
have you got a collapsed bearing? was there play in the bearing when u changed the axle?
pry the hub cap off and check the axle nut before you drive the car again.
also did u put the torsion bar/spring plate rubbers back in properly when u lowered it? and were the very worn?

http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/images/smilies/blush.gifWell... wish I had a look sooner. It was "the big nut", I
hadn't torqued it up enough, and know that I've had a good look it does seem to be a little longer on that side (about 3cm), I just rolled out that
guard a bit and hey presto no more rubbing or play.
Thankyou for replying. I've had the car off the road for three weeks until today.
